Got in our gas bill and its a lot more than the last one. I know it was winter but we were away for 2 weeks and our 3.5 month bill (nov-feb) shows 9 times higher usage than our 2.5 month bill (sep-nov)!

We were expecting a bigger bill but this makes it look like we spit roast large animals on a daily basis. Checked the readings etc and can't think of any 'special' incidents like leaving heating/oven/massive generator on for days. It's a rented house but there's (some) insulation in the loft and double glazing.

Any tips? Only thing I can think of is that the thermostat isn't registering the temp as being what it should be and keeps the heating going full tilt to accomodate??

help!

Turn off all gas items, check no flow for starters, ensuring you don't have a monster of a leak.

Are the readings correct? I see a fair few that have completely incorrect meter readings, or even worse are based on predictions
