Blimey 🙁

Sure I saw him jogging through Chester just the other day looking a picture of health. Great footballer and seemed to be doing the right things with the Welsh team. RIP Gary.

Shocking, he was only on Footy Focus yesterday.
Surely the pressure of being Wales manager can't be that bad?

One of the few modern day footballers I had a lot of respect for. Very sad.

Awful news. It's desperate that someone feels that way and can't see an alternative.

RIP Speedo

I am not into footy but he was doing wonders with the Welsh team and it is just so sad that a man with a family gets into the situation where he sees the only way out is to end it all.

RIP thoughts go out to his family and friends.

TBH not fussed about today's game now. Football pales into insignificance when put into perspective with someone's suffering and personal struggles.

That's just so sad. Always had a lot of respect for Gary.

Tragic sad news. Wales are on the verge of good things and he leaves a wife and young family. So sad. Something awful must have happnned in his life to trigger this. Condolences to his family. Hopefully the young welsh team can achieve great things in his memory. Rip speedo.

Very tragic and difficult to understand given the normality of his TV appearance yesterday.

My parents neighbour, whom they'd known for 40 years, took his life a few years ago having spent a very normal evening with them.

I can only assume that once you are in that dark place a clarity mind is achieved that allows you to work to schedule.

God bless and rest in peace, you will be sadly missed, Leeds has lost a son.

RIP - he was a key member of the last great Leeds United team. So sad especially when he was appearing live on yesterday's Football Focus. A great servant of football. "Marching on Together"

Terrible shame and completely out of the blue. My SIL knows his wife very well and is in pieces today. Apparently he was out last night so maybe something happened.
I've only bumped into him once at school and he seemed a very nice bloke. Certainly seemed to be doing a good job for Wales as well.
Bestbwishes can't help him now but I wish his wife and kids all the very best.

Obviuosly something very traumatic was happening in his life or was about to happen, so sad for his family and freinds, who had no idea of his problems, and have lost a freind or relative.

When the mrs told me earlier I was like who? No dont be silly you've got the wrong name!! So so shocked, very very sad. No matter who you are, what you do or how bad things are, to leave two young boys fatherless is a very very sad thing!

I'm not in the slightest bit a football fan, but that is shocking news.

Horrible for the family he leaves behind.

I'm more upset about this than I would have imagined.
What a terrible way to go.
Can't imagine how dark a mind must be to do that when you have a wife and kids and all the respect you could possibly want...poor bloke (and family)

He was a very genuine guy. I was walking my punctured bike home a few months ago. A runner stopped and offered to assist me fixing it, or did I want a drink as it was his field I was walking through. It's ok I said I only live a few houses down, I shook his hand and he introduced himself as Gary. I saw him a few times since and he always waved or said hello. I'm not a football fan and didn't realise who he was till I saw his photo on the news last night and it showed his home. Really sad news, he always seemed so happy and was a proper nice bloke from the kind gesture he made.

it's effing unbelievable and upsetting, on saturday I was watching a footie program which he was on, then that on sunday.

I really feel for his family, but if I'm honest more so for his mind.

That's a nice story catflees! The BBC News website is asking for comments "Did you ever meet Gary Speed? Send us your memories using the form below."

You should add your encounter in there.

Blinkin ek.

Not a footy fan at all (not that that makes any diffo in this) It was the fact that he's got a familiy, all the respect of his peers and masses of friends and that he is only 42.

Both MrsBouy and I looked at each other simultaneously when we were in the car and heard this come on the radio.

Yeek.

Very sadly its now being reported elsewhere that certain papers where lining up an exclusive on him, and he possibly couldnt cope with the news.

Lets hope that those responsible will be heavily fined or closed down and suffer a serious boycott of their titles.

Its just so sad his family have to read the same reports/rumours and will forever have to live with the consequences of what was ongoing.

That was the rumour on Twitter etc yesterday. Others thought it might be speculation, so for now, let's leave that part alone.
