I’m getting back into running again to help shed some kgs that has crept on over the last few years. Each run I’m wanting less and running more so my pace is slowly improving.

What I’m wanting to set up, is notifications mid run showing if my current run pace is faster or slower than my previous PB on my local loop.

not interested in a leaderboard with others (as I’ll be on the bottom) but just looking for that extra bit of motivation mid run.

I’ve got an old Garmin fenix 3, but it’s dying so tempted to upgrade

Ta

Using Garmin connect set it up as a workout

You can then manually set a pace to follow. So put your record pace into GC as a virtual racer and the watch will give you a split against it

That's using a Fenix 6 pro but I was able. To do the same on my forerunner 305 without using Garmin connect on a pre existing route and my edge 205/500 and then since I had a 635xt I've been able to do it from the phone app without a preexisting route

Doesn't the segment display do this?

What device is it? You should be able to set up a custom running profile that gives alerts if you're over/under/on a target pace.

Edit: you said fenix 3 didn't you.

I’m not sure about the subject, but what I am sure of is I’d be unbelievably fit but absolutely worn out if I followed it’s “it’s time to get up and move” prompts now!

You can ‘race against a previous activity’… using Virtual Partner…

You can race a previously recorded or downloaded activity. This feature works with the Virtual Partner® feature so you can see how far ahead or behind you are during the activity.
