You know so you can cook outside and get none of the really nice BBQ flavours you get from a charcoal BBQ.

My ignition system seems borked. Can I just light it manually or will I die?

Just use a long match and wait for the whoof.

Yep. My-not-a-barbecue-but-seems-to taste-oddly-similar-to-one gas grill even has a long wire thing as part of the kit which is apparently to hold a match so you don't burn your arm hairs.

I read that in a 'what could there possibly be to learn about lighting a gas barbeque with a cigarette lighter' frame of mind. And then learnt that I'd be doing it wrong! I didn't need to lift the grill plate up because apparently there's a 'match-light hole'. So thanks for the link.

Ta, I'm such a big Jessie when it comes to gas. Even camping I'm dreading the woomf. It may stem from a chum who enjoyed accelerating the lighting of a bonfire with petrol...

That's no way to treat a dog.
