I guess a rising FTSE in a time of recession is good? I don't really take much notice - it's on the news and appears on my iPod if I want to look - but I see it's been creeping up towards 6k this week. Almost as if they want to hit 6k for Christmas. Is this possible? Can they really have such fine control of the thing? And who are 'they' anyway if such even exist?

Just wondering.

what's driving it is a general lack of yield in the market , so money is returning to the equity markets as fixed income offers such a low level of return. Also while the FSTE is the London index the companies generate the majority of earnings in the international market. The bottom line is the pension funds can only stay on the sidelines for so long. The equity markets are too deep and liquid to be squeeze - for that look at the softs and metals - try googling the bunker hunts silver market or hanimaka aluminium market squeezes.

A thicker skinned bubble then. And it's not necessarily that companies are doing well but that demand for shares is high which is pushing the price up?

Bound to happen, I could have told you all. I got out of the stock market about 2 weeks ago with prices doing well - only one way they could go then.....

(I am not disappointed, stock market was good and I wanted to change my portfolio which was too high in the market and happy with what I got)

Will wait for a mini crash and probably dive back in again with a smaller input.
