nealglover - MemberWell he reckons he got a fpn 3 points for doing 111mph in November last year.
I don't believe that for a second, because for that speed it's a court appearance not a fpn.
So, I'm not sure I believe the rest of the story either.
ACPO guidelines state that the minimum action for 96mph and above is a summons to court.
My bullshittometer is off the scale.
I think that "your friend" should turn up to court and bullshit the judge like you have us - just for giggles.
dirk_pumpa - driving or riding on a public road like a complete cock-end "in a aggressive manner" is not big and not clever. Pointing that out does not make you "holier than thou".
Some tips for the day
"I'm not used to such a powerful bike"
"I didn't realise I was going that fast"
both should help increase the time awarded for contemplation.
Speaking as someone who's had their share of driving and riding 'briskly' over the years,
[s]You[/s] he is on a provisional licence, bought a 600cc bike that he's not qualified to ride, couldn't be arsed to insure it, and got caught doing in excess of 110mph?
Never mind tips on how to lessen the fine, if it were down to me the bike would be crushed and he'd be going to jail. Cretin.
Also adjusted my route to work that avoids motorways.
This is where your doing it wrong. 100+ on quiet roads is a skill same speed on the motorway is just silly and crap. Its all about the bends 😉

I reckon I could spend a good few weeks crushing cretins cars and bikes. Should be prescribed for stress.
Is speeding on a high horse more dangerous and more liable to a higher level of prosecution than others at a more 'grounded' level?
It is always worthwhile turning up to the magistrates court in person, whatever the charge is.
Suggest he puts a suit on and acknowledges his stupidity, it helps show you take the matter seriously.
If he pleads guilty by post or turns up and acts like a bellend, the fine and the points will be worse.
Is speeding on a high horse more dangerous and more liable to a higher level of prosecution than others at a more 'grounded' level?
+1
For me the speed he got caught at is pretty irrelevant, it's been on the road without insurance that he ought to done hard for.
Get a Brief, write a mitigation statement, go to court, look contrite, take your medicine, learn your lesson.
Yes you've been silly but you're not the first and you won't be the last. Ignore all the holier than thou stuff above. There's a high degree of perfection on here, evidently.
Holier than though my arse.
Please tell me your comments if you read the following made up story
"uninsured unlicensced motorcyclist kills 5 year old girl due to excessive speed"
Not sure what point you're trying to make there, other than an ability to write Daily Mail headlines. If your hypothetical motorcyclist had killed the equally theoretical child whilst holding a valid licence and insurance, would she then only be slightly dead or something?
Exactly Cougar, what I was just about to write.
It's not big, it's not clver but as boblo says, not the first and won't be the last.
I love these threads the righteous come on and say how naughty it is to drive/ride on a motorway at 100 mph, but some how them doing 70/80 mph is just soo bloody safe and right.
Aye, and all of us at one point in our lives have done over the hundred.
::awaits the angels that stick to speed limits+10%::
but some how them doing 70/80 mph is just soo bloody safe and right
I'm just guessing here, but I imagine that the speed limit has been set at 70 for a reason.
If 100mph was OK on a road with other vehicles on it then surely some country would have that as its speed limit - and don't say Germany as the amount of unlimited autobahn is now down to a few km from what it used to be, and even that will go one day.
It's not that the cars can't do it safely it's that we are not able to react quickly enough to situations that can occur in mixed speed traffic.
Aye, and all of us at one point in our lives have done over the hundred.
::awaits the angels that stick to speed limits+10%::
I've driven above the speed limit yes (not 111mph though)
But I've never done it without insurance or a license.
Have you ?

Seems the OP and his mate may be developing a habit of doing it 😉 And from some of the posts I read on here it's not going over a ton at one point but more of a regular, habitual occurrence for some.
Don't even go 10% above the limit myself, and never knowingly would.
Pass me my halo and while you're at it one for my wife, mum, dad and daughter tooand lots of people I work and socialise with. Why try and justify wreckless, irresponsible, dangerous behaviour by saying "everyone does it" ? They don't and even if they did it wouldn't lessen the obvious dangers.
I thought the 70mph speed limit was more to do the saving fuel than lives when put into place? Happy to be corrected though. Additionally, a fellow director got caught on the m5 at 110mph in a car 2 weeks ago, let off with a 3 points and £100 fine, this was entirely at the discretion of the stopping officer and I'm not sure why he was feeling so lenient that evening, so it's entirely plausible as a story.
However, I don't condone the speeding with no licence, and obviously a very limited actual ability on the bike, and the total disregard for others. At least build up a level of compitance / experience if you're going to do it!
"Holier than thou"? "Bellends"? Grow up both of you.

You're recycling the reason for US limit being dropped to 55 in the 1970s.

It would be more top heavy, I suppose.

this, a lad from the rugby club got pulled at 134 on the M6 in the middle of the night in his RS4. The police officer just gave him a stern talking to and said the only reason he pulled him over was because if he'd gone any quicker he'd not have been able to keep up with him, but given the time and conditions he felt he wasn't driving "dangerously" and so let him off.
one of my ex colleagues was clocked doing just over a hundred winding down on a slip road on his pan. he got a six month ban and a few hundred quid in costs/fines.
not the end of the world like.

With No Insurance, No License on a bike that he was not qualified to ride and on a road he was not licensed to be on.
Speeding is the least of the issues.
Friend had a similar issue, got six month ban and £650 fine. He wasn't speeding either.
The problem with speed as it increases, the drivers false confidence in his own ability increases.

No it was brought after a series accidents, no one cared back then about fuel as it was never going to run out or do any harm.
I'll step up to the plate. I don't do more than 70mph on motorways.
That could be because I own a 12 year old 998cc Toyota Yaris though, and turning on the aircon is like throwing out an anchor! 😀

Hahahaha!
I regularly drive over 70mph when it's safe to do so but I'm allowed. 🙂
I've driven above the speed limit yes (not 111mph though)But I've never done it without insurance or a license.

Many many many time in all honesty... I was young and foolish.
Not long ago I maxed out a Hayabusa on the road.... it was fast.. no-one died 🙂
I bet some flies died!
He needs protecting from himself.
Other people need protecting from him.
Letting people with low IQ's kill themselves in hilarious ways is good for the economy, the environment and the human gene pool.

I'm not sure I believe that 🙂

On a closed-circuit?
No he definately said road.
Anyone here not done a ton? Ever? I'm not saying you should or its right, but like looking at porn I'd look at you incredulously if you say you haven't.
Exploding over some tissue isn't the same as overcooking a bend/corner and taking out someone who has never done you wrong in life.
Alrighty then, seeing as this is now the speeding thread....
Took my first bike (Kawasaki zx7r) to 100mph+ on a regular basis, never maxed it out though....probably because it was 10 years old and a bit crap (£1500 with no history and 30,000 miles on the clocks)...at the time my sister lived 100 miles away in Milton Keynes, i visited most weekends and could get to her in under an hour....you work it out, thats an AVERAGE speed of 100mph on that journey...lol.
My next bike was my fist brand new bike, a Kawasaki again, this time a zx6r....it had a 16,000 rpm redline and it would've been rude not to....i once gaffer taped my phone to the bars with the camera pointing at the dials and recorded myself doing 158 mph, there was more to come but i came up on traffic and backed it off.
Next bike was a naked (unfaired bike), this time a Yamaha FZ1....apparently these are designed to be fun at slower speeds and difficult to get into triple figure because of the wind blast. However, it was my first taste of a 1000cc engine and proper torque so the challenge was set....i cracked 150 on that too, only once mind....the neck strain was everything the magazines said it would be, to be fair i did spend most of the time on that bike below 100mph so it that respect owning a naked for a few years did the job....i had 6 points on my licence by now so had to calm down for a while and let the points clear.
Next bike was a brand new Suzuki GSXR-750, beautiful looking and a peach of an engine...it had the compact dimensions and low weight of a 600c but with more power and torque everywhere in the rev range, i'd go as far as to suggest it was the perfect sportsbike.
Bizarrely enough this bike was so competent that i didnt muck about on it too much, it never felt like i was pushing it....dare i say it but it was almost too good and therefore 'boring'....something i've read about when reading reviews of Honda's Fireblade and never really understood but i do now. Anyway, 150mph was cracked on this bike and it would literally jump to 100mph+ in a blink just by holding the throttle open for the first 3 gears....only covered 3000 miles in 3 years on this bike and its being enjoyed by somebody else now.
You only appreciate what you had once its gone and i miss it now, i will own another one.
Current bike is a Yamaha FZ8 (800cc), naked styling again and i have been quite sensible with this one....i'm 36 now, getting old.
Havent maxed it out yet, i gather it doesnt do 150mph anyway so whats the point?
It sits happily at 80-90 on the motorway though so its still my preferred method of travel if i have to get somewhere on time, no sitting in traffic as its a bike and all that.
Licence is currently clean now which is nice, best bit about speeding on these bikes is that most speed cameras are front facing....and there's no front plate on a bike!....the fools.
I did 38mph on my 50cc scooter when I was 16. Was down hill and with a tail wind. Even overtook a tractor down that hill. I was soooo cool.
Think the speed limit was 50 but 38 seemed fast enough. Yep. 8)
Exploding over some tissue isn't the same as overcooking a bend/corner and taking out someone who has never done you wrong in life.
He never mentioned a corner, just going over 100mph (I think it was a motorway, CBA to go back and read).
I know its immature but still my favourite morning ritual is giving the finger to the bloke in the camera van who sits on the Hogs Back/A31 Farnham to Guildford, he has a front facing camera and i've been doing it for the last 7 years, i'm sure he looks forward to it as much as i do by now.
😀
On a closed-circuit?
No...but I'd rather not get into 'where'
However, I have maxed out most of my bikes in that particular area.
The Hayabusa was showing 295kmh on the clocks.
I overtook a shiny new XKR on the A55 in north Wales at about three in the morning. It was doing over a ton, my 12 year old Escort TDI was doing about 1 mph faster, which I think was mainly due to the propulsion caused by the clouds of smoke billowing from the exhaust. XKR guy wasn't impressed and floored it...

and I assume you will be happy to hand over your license for a year or so and bend over and take it from the courts if caught?
