Is making a loudish humming noise and appears to be defrosting itself. Had it about 7 years and is a whirlpool. Any experts around know whether it might be worth fixing? Home insurance said it isn't covered cuz it broke down

no idea if its a similar fault with whirlpools, but there's reports of some of the samsung ones having ice form near the air circulation fan blades leading to noises (ice hitting blades) and ultimately defrosting as the fan jams and cold air circulation stops.
You can usually take apart the firdge from the inside to get to the impeller and clear it of ice.
However if the noise is coming from the compressor then it may be a bit more serious.
