Recommendations, if you would. Must have cool spaceships, preferably recent, not Star Wars and I've seen that thing with McConertherty.
Thanks in advance.

BSG +1 (the reboot, not the 80s original). Start with the pilot...

or BSG Blood & Chrome, that's a good stand alone film

If you have Netflix [url=

Bright[/url] is pretty good. Will Smith does a decent turn without his usual quips

Bsg is a good call but then I'll have to watch ALL of it.
Serenity goes on the list, Bladerunner sounds like it might require thought, Valerian not. Moon was good but..no spaceships. Is the |
Hitchhiker's reboot any good? Fith Element is more of a classic, I only know the original Carpenter Thing, does it have spaceships?
Thanks, people.

Bright is not awful
Valerian is....but in a Luc Besson way which makes it very watchable.

Just to be typically STW how about a blast from the past (1975 to be exact):

Space 1999 season 1 ep4 “War Games” Some very good (and very clunky) special effects. I think you can find it on you tube.

I really enjoyed bright.

Technically I should hate it, but it's worth a watch.

or there's The Expanse on Netfilx. OK it's a series (two actually), not a film, but it has ships and SFX and stuff

Bright is ****ing TERRIBLE! Bizzare plot with massive holes, awful acting, doesn't really go anywhere. Obviously a Luc Besson film is allowed to have all those things because it looks incredible 🙂

Bright is not awful

Sounds like a reviewer quote you used to get on the back of video tapes that got cut off too early

Bright is not awful......ly bad, it's a f**ing s**t show of epic proportions, but at least Will Smith got paid a bucketload

I've heard good things about Europa Report

+1 for The Expanse.

Europa Report also better than you might have thought. Certainly better than Bright.

Best designed/coolest spaceship in the last few years for me has to be Starship Avalon in Passengers. Movie's not bad either.

Serenity goes on the list,

If you don't -definitely- want a movie, you're better off watching the Firefly series than Serenity. It's still cool though.

I'm up to date with the Expanse, books and TV, Guardians of the Galaxy was meh, Babylon 5 was excellent - the films a bit weak though, Jupiter ascending was that bad. So it's down to Serenity, Passengers or Europa Report, with life filed for another day.
Thanks to all.

Hang on for a few weeks and watch Altered Carbon on Netflix. I don’t see how the book can be translated well to the screen, but I’m willing to be proven wrong. Expanse is brilliant, can’t wait for book 8

I watched it for the first time relatively recently. It's really good but the first season is terrible.

Live,Die, Repeat

That's "The Edge of Tomorrow" in the UK.

It wasn't great at the time. You had to stick with it for things to unfold after series 1, then it got VERY good... Until they rushed everything at the end.

Ahh yes “are you an effective team?” I forgot about that, fun film worth watching.
Live, die, repeat is also a good romp.

His latest, “The Mummy” is very odd and bland.

Brights not as bad as it’s made out to be , I enjoyed it.

Valerians typical luc b so worth a watch.

I didn’t really think much of the new blade runner thou.

Life struggled to watch it to the end.

Thumbs up for Passengers and a special award for the cool spaceship, thanks for the recommend.
The ideas and long story arcs compensate for the outdated sfx in Babylon 5.
Edge of Tomorrow was indeed a good romp, I couldn't get into Killjoys but am looking forward to Altered Carbon (I get the feeling that Richard Morgan is not particularly well liked by Charlie Stross and his contemporaries).
I accidentally watched Paul recently, no spaceship awards but worth the time. Oblivion or Europa Report tonight.

Why do you say this?
Not totally sure they needed to add more to the Kovac's back story but we will see, looking forward to it but ready, as ever, to be disappointed

killjoy's really? I preferred dark matter but even deleted that unwatched this week

I've never sat down to watch a movie and turned it off before the end in my puff. Until i watched that drivel. Only good thing was the large alien 'mech' creature design. Not even a so bad it's good, or funny or anything, it made no sense and was just pure shite. Your mate must have been very, very drunk.

Anyone mentioned Travellers?

Netflix original, surprisingly ropey at first, but actually gets going eventually. The premise still seems to contain a gaping hole but there's enough left unknown that it might actually be addressed. But the character and contextual depth is to the usual high Netflix standard if you watch carefully.

No spaceships at all though.

GotG is a fine example of its genre, it's not pretending to be avant-garde or cutting edge to hide a story thats been used so many times before that you can work out what the reveal is long before the end.

I think you'll like oblivion though, it's got space ships and everything!
