Planning the annual Family Stoner Euroromp and was wondering if anyone had any tips for some festivals or must-sees during second half of July and early August.

We're starting with the TdF on the 15th July in the deep SW, then heading into the Cevennes for the latter part of the month, before going up towards Burgundy and the Alsace.

yeah. It pisses me off something big to have to go at that time of year.

Before Stoner Jr started at school last Sept, we used to go for the whole of June and first week of July. As it is we are getting special permission to take him out for the last week and a half of the summer term to make it to the TdF at our mate's place 🙁

Its also why we're going up to the Alsace during August as hopefully it will be less busy than the SW and Cevennes.

Most villages host a "Boff-off" at least once a week outside the Bar-Tabac in summer.

If you're in SW, then the fetes in Bayonne are supposed to be good.

The San Sebastian jazz festival is 19-23rd, loads of free music all over the city. Not just jazz. And not in France of course, but only 20 mins from the border. There aren't many venues better than the green stage on La Zurriola beach as the sun goes down.

as it has been said , lot of local village fetes in the summer .
most in the south will involve :
a petanque tournament
a giant Aperitif involving Pastis
a giant bbq , paella , local specialities
and to finish it off , a " ball " where local ish bands plays french 80s music .

and very often a local producer market .

On the 13/14/15th July we have the national UFOLEP road race championships here in Rochechouart. 🙂

Or we got a semi-nocturne VTT rando on 7th July at St Priest Sous Aixe.

Or I'll probably have a local gig with my band!!!!

How much fete can you handle??? 🙂

Festival de Nimes - http://www.festivaldenimes.com/

Good tunes in a proper Roman amphitheatre. Cheap beer delivered to you (no queueing), balmy Provence nights. Absolutely brill. I went a few years back for Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire. Mint!

I understand rangerboy's last line 🙂

Have tracking number for Ainol, hopefully receive tomorrow.
Will post review then.

strato - 15th I have a date with my boy on the roadside of the Limoux>Foix stage of the TdF 🙂

Nimes is a bit big for what I was thinking. Thinking something a little more rural...
