I've noticed that the coolant level has dropped below the minimum line so it needs sorting. In the handbook that came with the car it says in bold and capitals that the old coolant must always be drained out first and then be completely refilled, but on most bottles of coolant I've seen it says that it's ok to mix in with exisitng coolant as a top-up.

So who's right?

Ben - just top it up with tap water. If it happens again get it looked at in case there's a leak. The colour varies depending on the coolant additive.

Depends on age. IF the old coolent is 3yrs old then make up some new.

Its not critical unless its winter. Topping up is better than nothing and fine.

Buy a tester to see if needs changing.
