Need some advice for anybody in the building trade, we are looking to put up a single story extension in the back garden across the back of the house 8m x 3m, we are looking to get the footings done up to damp because then my father in law can block the rest.
So far we have been quoted £8000 for the footings. Is this steep?
We have about 10k really and wanted to get the whole thing up for that (footings, block and roof) can anyone give me an idea what price I would be looking at.
Get at least three quotes from other companies. Remember though the cheapest may not be the best value for money
There's a number of variables. Ground type and trees will impact depth. Access for getting the spoil away and concrete in. Region. Has the building inspector given you a depth? I'd say £8k would be in the area. It always seems like a lot of money to get you back to where you started At ground level.
£10K is ambitious without a good chunk of diy. Digging a hole and filling it with concrete isn't that tricky as long as you don't have dodgy ground.
Getting out of the ground is always a bit of a lottery, unless you have extensive grounds conditions tests done.
It would impossible to say if it's steep or cheap without knowing what the ground is like really.
The ground is flat no trees nothing blocking it, ground is good iv already dug down about a metre and its been fine. No clay 🙂
If your doing it yourself it's a lot.
I've just poured the footing for a 4bed house and all in I'm up to about £8k but I've took about 200 ton of spoil away and 21 cubed metres of concrete for the pour. Had to hire a pump as well (£450)
Still need to lay about 1000 foundation blocks to get to damp.
iv already dug down about a metre and its been fine.
Dig more then (about 8m x 3m!), unless you need to get it done in a hurry. If you are on a tight budget you have to do a lot of the labour yourself.
Has the building inspector agreed that is deep enough?ground is good iv already dug down about a metre and its been fine

If there are no trees or hedges sighing 3m of the new extension, building control will probably let you dig down 1m.
Otyerwise they may insist on 2m (which obviously increases costs a fair bit.)
If you are going to be doing the above ground blockwork yourself, why not just get your trench done by someone else, then pour the concrete and do the rest yourself too ?
That will save you a fair bit, and concrete pouring is pretty straightforward.
