Been flown in a few (DH Beavers) in Canada and off the Barrier reef.
Great landings and take-offs. Very strange being in a small boat in a bay waiting for a plane to pick you up and seeing a whale come up where it is about to land.
Ecranoplan?
I was staying in Loch Rannoch youth hostel and a Swiss couple arrived by seaplane. What a great way to see the country!
Onion is win because better.
Wasn't there a satellite photo of the Ecranoplan?
They have a catalina at Duxford, its in great condition http://www.catalina.org.uk/
An ekranoplan isn't a plane though is it, it's, well, an ekranoplan.
Still bloody awesome 🙂
ekranoplan?
Flew on one in Vancouver, stopping at the little bays around. Superb. Really weird watching the sea rushing up towards you when landing.
The Shorts Sunderland is the one for me.
If I was Kermit Weeks with an inexhaustible supply of cash I'd convert the Sunderland into a flying caravan and doss about the world doing outdoorsy stuff.
A flying boat service currently covers the West Coast of Scotland, I frequently see them flying about showing off.
If I could earn the same money as I am on now flying the DH Beaver Floatplane instead of pressing buttons at 37000ft then........
Proper flying.
Wasn't there a satellite photo of the Ecranoplan?
I posted a screenshot from google earth ages ago. Can't remember how I found it, there's 2 of them there on the Caspian sea.
