My (less than computer savvy) wife has bought some Flight of the Conchords tickets, she said she got caught up in the hype and didn't expect to pay almost £100 per seat but pressed OK anyway because she only had 3 minutes to complete the booking process.

She's just asked me to print out the e-tickets and they have some one else's details on them and say they are tickets 1 and 2 of 6. They also say the tickets are £31.10 each not £97.50 each.

Print out says Ticket Direct but email is from Viagogo who were recently raided for dodgy practices...

Does this sound like she's been scammed

Viagogo is a 'legitlate' scam site if that makes sense. Theres supposed to be changes afoot to make it more apparent that sites like Viagogo are RE-sellers of tickets - they tend to use words like 'Official' on their pages and literature as if they are the primary source of the tickets they're selling but they're essentially a marketplace for second-hand tickets.

Google are supposed to be taking steps to make sure its more obvious these sites are re-sellers in search results too

The only scam is that somebody (probably a tout) resold their tickets for 3x face value.

As above, Viagogo is a "legitimate" reseller site.

Right, so its legal but far from ethical and a massive rip off.

Just been told that Manchester require ID for entry so that's not going to work with these tickets.

Quite an expensive mistake she just made, don't really fancy telling her, maybe Corey Lorde the official ticket holder could do that for me.

How did you pay?

If it was by credit card, it's chargeback, it's chargeback time.

I think there are all sorts of measures that promotors are trying to take to try and not fuel the secondary ticket market -  like statements about 'requiring ID for entry' etc. But I don't know of any instances of people who've bought or been given a second hand ticket not being able to use it. It would rule out you being able to give someone a ticket as a gift, for instance.

I don't think in practice you'll have any trouble getting in - if you would performers all around the country would be playing  sell out gigs where the venues were half empty.

She didn't pay by credit card, no matter how many times I tell her she refuses to use it.

Practicalities of childcare, hotel etc mean its more than I'm willing to gamble on getting in with a mismatched ID and ticket.

I'm not angry with her, its her money, her mistake.

And yes there is a gamble, Manchester say ID is needed and must match the ticket.

But if they took any steps to enforce that there'd be riots outside every night - a large portion of the tickets to any event they stage will have been re-sold - completely legally. If that condition could be enforced (or if the venue was in any way willing to enforce it) then Viagogo and half a dozen other sites wouldn't exist.

Of course the ideal would be that they wouldn't exist - but they still do - and you'll get in.

 it’s chargeback, it’s chargeback time.

This deserves praise.

It will be the sellers responsibility to ensure that you get inside- viagogo should be arranging that you meet them at the venue. If you don't get in, the seller won't get paid, and you will get your money back.

In all likelihood the seller will have been told that they have to escort you inside, and you will have to sign a note saying that you gained entry.

Going by my past experience.

Re-selling tickets is legal for now but if ID is required for entry there is a very high chance that the holder of the ticket won't get in.
