Ok- had my flatscreen Toshiba TV repaired yesterday. On films and particularly the news on every other word there is a 'vhff' sound or edge at the end of each spoken word- a sort of soft distortion.

The retailers repairman said it'll do this as its a cheaply produced TV but he replaced the speakers anyway.

He said flatscreen tv's have very flat/small/cheap speakers and can vibrate.

Its very distracting and annoying. Thoughts, if I add a soundbar- does this bypass the TV's speakers? i.e. creates a solution.

Or is this a load of tosh? The sound was never this bad a year ago -it seems to have become more pronounced.

'Cheap' doesn't equal cant perform its basic function. This was 400 notes.

My Yamaha soundbar bypasses the TV's speakers so yes this would work. Think I paid about £100 for it a couple of years ago. It's OK but I wouldn't say the difference is night and day. Definitely more bass and a less thin/tinny sound than the TV can produce.

I presume it has a headphone socket? Listen through headphones to check the audio signal with the speakers bypassed.

Unintentional pun of the day.

I use 2.1 PC speakers plugged in to the headphone socket. No ideal for the full movie experience but fine for everyday viewing and loads better than the speakers in modern TVs.

This sort of thing...

Oo ta- that looks good. I'll look into these. Its quite sad really- we've got a belter of a tv in the next room with big speakers built in. It makes this flat screen 'orrible to watch.
