following some good advice on here the other year i installed an ssd on a new PC i had just bought as my main drive for windows etc. however at 64gb its now getting a bit full and seeing as the discs are a lot cheaper now i'm thinking of buying a new one.
but the big question is how hard is it to do, not the physical installation itself more the swapping over the OS (64bit windows 7) and all my software?
presumably its not as simple as copying the whole thing onto my main HD in a folder then just copying it back onto the new drive?
Personally, I'd just install the second SSD as a separate drive 'E' (or whatever) and keep the OS on the original drive whilst moving music/pictures/etc onto the new one.
[edit] or is it full of os and software?
i got a samsung one and it had its own software to do all the swapping over
just plug and play really
EaseUS probably do something - I use their disk partitioner and it is good - and I think it might have tools to migrate the OS.
If you get a bigger SSD you could use your existing one for the swap/temp drive.
I have just done similar - and use such an event to make sure I have everything backed up somewhere properly before starting.
As above there is usually some bundled software just follow the instructions and let it get on with it
the pc does have a large hdd as well, all my files are on that, its just the win7 and software on the ssd.
I've just upgraded to a Samsung evo. It came with software that cloned the old one to the new one. Worked flawlessly. Thats on W8.1.
Just one thing to consider, you have to be able to connect both SSD at the same time. I did mine with the original on the internal sata port, and the new one in a USB caddy.
