Do you need a rod license to fish in the sea? Are most areas also permit controlled by local sea angling clubs?
From a bridge, harbour, beach, rocks etc rather than off shore in a boat.
not in scotland, but salmon are off-limits apparently.
No, rod license is just for freshwater.
you can fish tidal streches of rivers without a licence too.
not many private beaches or rocks about, but harbours and estuaries sometimes have restrictions. ask the local tackle shop.
re. tidal stretches and licences - depends what you are fishing for!
no licence required at all
some harbours etc though may require a fee
also as has been mentioned don't take any salmon or sea trout

Very rarely, The only example I can give is Seaham Angling club who's members have the right to fish off the north pier as it's not open to the general public.
There was talk of a sea licence a couple of years ago but nothing came of it, thankfully.

Er, not true in the slightest.

I know of a stretch where you can actually. Alnmouth in Northumberland. As far up as the road bridge into Alnmouth.
Tidal rivers can be fished without a rod licence, unless you are fishing for trout or salmon. Some rivers /estuaries have rules regarding Bass such as no fishing from a boat. Fishing from the beach /boat into open sea does not require a rod licence.
