I resigned myself to the loss of one of my lovely clown loaches. Couldn't find it anywhere in the tank, so thought it must have died and been eaten by the other two. That was a month ago. Today, I decide to clean the filter out and bu$$er me if it wasn't inside the damn thing! I do not know how it got in there, or how it could possibly survive like that for a bloomin month! I can't vouch for it's mental state but it looks otherwise unharmed.
Respect for the fish!
you found nemo?!

plop_pants, Ive had EXACTLY that thing happen with a Pseudochomis fridmani in one of my set ups, though it was only about two weeks.
can't have been too pleasant being stuck in a pipe with 1000 litres per hour streaming past though.
Barry, your just repeating the same crappy old incorrect myth about fish memory. Studies on cyprinids (the same family as the maligned goldfish) prove that they have surprising good memories (probably better than me)
What wuz I saying again?

When I was a kid I had a goldfish called Englebert. One morning Englebert was missing from his fish tank on top of the music centre. Frantic searching finally found a little red tail sticking out of a Des o'Connor LP sleeve. Alas poor englerbert didn't survive 🙁
Turns out you can't freeze the goldfish bowl to make moving house easier.
a mate and i cleaned out his pond once. bloody big pond (it was an old swimming pool that was lined with clay, 20' x 40') that we used to fish in sometimes. he used to keep coarse fish in his pond along with the usual koi and such like.
his pond was full of silk weed. anyway, we pulled loads of the stuff out and left it on the side to dry out. the next day we went to chuck the dried weed into the bin. whilst doing so we found a 10" tench alive amongst the weed. we promptly chucked t back in the pond.
bearing in mind the weed had been out of the pond for over 12 hours and partly in the summer sun; we were surprised the fish had survived. we then clawed back the rest of the weed to make sure there weren't any more fish in there.
