Where is the best place to advertise to find a tutor for a 15 year old?
To help him with English and math gcse.
We are in France and will provide accommodation, food etc...
I think it would be perfect for a student.
Student - are they really a good quality *teacher*?
Sounds like you want cheap - I would want *good*.
What he said, when looking round for one for myself (43 year old going to uni, never done higher maths!) I found plenty grads, but teaching is completely different.
Found a just retired maths teacher, and he's brilliant. Actually worked out how I learn, and works from there. 👌🏻
You could always try online tutoring. I know this person is good.
http://theonlinephysicstutor.com/ he also does maths.
Very common here for the kids at college to earn a bit of coin helping school students, my nieces all did it. Unless there are serious problems it's enough to have someone who's recently done the exam (English teacher here BTW).
I did it when I first arrived in Belgium. Surprisingly difficult as even though you might know how to solve a problem that doesn't mean you know why someone else can't. My contact in was via the local head of maths at an English speaking school so that might be a good place to ask.
For students to stay over that's a bit tougher. We have had a local family ask us if we know of any local students help their children with English but then the ages were much younger so it would work. Again this was local anglophone networks
Worth bearing in mind that a tutor who knows the syllabus of the courses in question will be much more effective than someone who is just good at the subject. Not sure how feasible it would be in your situation, but a trainee teachers usually make good tutors. When parents of my pupils ask about tutors that's the direction I send them.
thanks all ; maybe a bit of background will make it a bit clearer .
since moving to france my son has really struggled ; he dropped out of french school last year and since september spends most of his time in his bedroom . he really wants to go back to the UK .
he wants to take at least 2 GCSE in May but he is 12 months behind . He and we know that his chances are very slim . But with someone living with us , tutoring him a few hours a day , it might give him a bit of self confidence back .
