Hi all,

Looking for a decent painter/decorator for work, to paint some meeting rooms and toilets at a clients office.

What is the best way to find someone who is good but not overpriced? Are the liked of Ratedpeople.com any good?

Thanks,
Duane.

Direct recommendation ftw whenever possible. Probably best to say where you are working these days and you might well find someone here has used someone in the area

Sorry, forgot to add, this will be in West London.

I think the only reliable way is by word of mouth - preferably from someone who has similar standards to you. I used a plumber from ratedpeople who had good reviews but didn't do a very good job for me. I've heard some horror stories about decorators too.

I could give you a really good recommendation. Not London-based though unfortunately so probably not much help unless your clients can throw in accommodation... which would eat away at the saving of not hiring a London-based decorator...

Sorry, rambling 🙂

From memory, most of these sites let the business moderate their own reviews 🙄

I didn't find the reviews on ratedpeople etc very useful either. We used a roofer from there, who had glowing reviews. He ended up being a bit of a nutcase, who had a blazing row with 2 of my neighbours about parking his van before he had even started the work.

Yeah, at least one of those 'recommended worker' sites is basically anyone paying them the £500 admin fee.

I would suggest the Buy With Confidence scheme:
