Star Wars 4 & 7
fast & furious 1 through 7. lots of cars and very little plot - has no one thought about steering locks or pedal boxes, could of saved us a lot of time. see also all transformers films
oh and everything tom hardy is in, but is suspects thats more that he plays every character the same way
White House Down
Olympus Has Fallen
apparently fairly common for the major studios to green light a film with the same plot a their major competitors, but most of them don't make it out of development. unfortunately both of these examples did!
Thunderball
Never Say Never Again
Those are the exact same plot and main character names. There's another pair from memory.
At least with Casino Royale they messed it around a bit!
Transformers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7.
Ironically Olympus Has Fallen is gracing my TV right now.
I do quite like the line:
"Why don't you and I play a game of **** off, you go first" 😈
Police Acadamy 4: Citizens on Patrol
Kramer versus Kramer
Ironically Olympus Has Fallen is gracing my TV right now.
Ten thousand spoons....
Deadpool
Kick Ass
All the Bourne films (except that different weird one)
the tower and judge dredd (non stallone version)
essentially exactly the same plot - the tower a low budget masterpiece which apparently killed any chance of a second Dredd as the plots where so similar (even though the context, characters etc are totally different) but both in production at the same time. by the time dredd was released after the tower it was already dead in the water
Deadpool
Kick Ass
in as much as violent & sweary but that is about it
On The Buses
Mutiny On The Buses
Holiday On The Buses
Pretty in pink/Some kind of wonderful
Dangerous liaisons / Cruel intentions
Casino
Goodfellas
Home Alone
Skyfall (last 20 minutes of)
Ten thousand spoons....
Really after all the Chinese takeaway eaten this evening I don't need a knife or any other type of cutlery (and probably won't until Tuesday). In fact 10,000 spoons is about the measure of tonight's portion control.
While I'm back the second and third Matrix films.
Home Alone
Skyfall (last 20 minutes of)
Chapeau!

Erm, see The Raid.
The longest yard
Mean Machine

No they're not.
One is a superhero without any super powers being saved by a kick ass girl. The other is a mutant that can't be killed trying to save his girlfriend.

balls, it was the raid i was thinking of. curse my middle aged memory. the tower is essentially die hard without the terrorists and Korean iirc

Mean Machine
It's a remake of, so shouldn't be much of a surprise.

By a country mile. OHF was dull as hell and seemed to take itself far too seriously. WHD was thoroughly enjoyable nonsense.
I thought Avatar was actually Dances with Wolves?
Anyway Braveheart and The Patriot
Roxanne
Cyrano De Bergerac
chapeau sir, not the most obvious retelling of a literary classic
The Thomas Crown Affair
The Thomas Crown Affair

Apocalypse Now.
FTFY
EDIT - although now i think about it more, good call. never saw the similarities before!
The Hobbit 1,2,3
Lord of the rings 1,2,3
Willow
There are films that are basically a retelling of the same story, or source material, but with a diffent name like:
Heat & LA takedown (as previously mentioned)
The departed & Infernal affairs
Zodiac & Dirty Harry
Disturbia & rear window
A Fistful Of DollarsLast Man Standing
Both based on one of Kurisawa's i think...
Heat & LA takedown (as previously mentioned)
The departed & Infernal affairs
Seeing as they are remakes of the original 😉 (and yes my Thomas Crown one was a joke)
The aviator
Catch me if you can
Wolf of wall street
or at least Leonardo is basically the same character in them.
Wolf of Wall Street
Goodfellas
While I'm back the second and third Matrix films
It's one film in 2 parts.
Wolf of Wall Street
Goodfellas
in which case you can add Blow and Scarface to that list. all based (albeit loosely) on real people and follow a similar progression - underdog nobody rises through a life of crime, makes his fortune, gets farked up on too much chisel and all goes horribly wrong
Clueless
Emma
Taken
The Bourne Identity
Toy Story 3
Superbad
Kung Fu Panda
The Matrix
Slow West
Shop Girl
The Wedding Crashers
Face/Off
🙂
Point Break
Fast & furious
F&f is just a complete rip off
My kids have tormented me with these.
Antz - Bugs Life
Gordy - Babe
Bolt - 101 Dalmatians 2
Most sports films. Underdog becomes champion.
A Fistful Of DollarsLast Man Standing
Both based on one of Kurisawa's i think...
Yojimbo. Fistful of Dollars isn't so much a remake as a carbon copy - even down to the standoffs and the escape scene where the lead character crawls under boardwalks.
Heat & LA takedown (as previously mentioned)
LA Takedown was a sort of trial run for Heat. Seems a weird thing to do, but what do I know?!
the good dinosaur
the lion king
I absolutely love Heat, but have never seen LA Takedown. Need to remedy that I think. 🙂
Escape from NY
Escape from LA

Wizard of Oz
Star Wars a new hope
Taken = Stolen
The 39 Steps / North by Northwest
Romeo and Juliet
Gnomeo and Juliet
Can't remember which was the original, as they're so similar, but suspect it's the one with lawnmowers.
Bad News (first)
Spinal Tap (Second)
The longest yard
Mean Machine
It's a remake of, so shouldn't be much of a surprise.
The original Mean Machine was always called The Longest Yard in the USA.
The Americans remade it as The Longest Yard, and then there was the British version with Vinnie Jones which they called Mean Machine, so there are 3 versions.
The Burt Reynolds one was the only good one.
