[Closed] Fig rolls - cakes or biscuits?

A colleague informs me that the test is whether or not it goes hard or soft when it goes stale. The former being a cake, the latter being a biscuit.

I like this logic, so I think you should apply it.

Cake, as they dry out when they get old rather than go soggy, which is the case for biscuits.

possibly need their own classification but if we have to decide, quite soft and I think they might go hard when stale (complete conjecture I have never knowingly let a fig roll go stale) so I'm going with cake.

I say cake though. Biscuits are flat, fig rolls are roll shaped.

Savoury snacks have different rules. For starters you don't dunk them in tea.

More faulty than San Andreas that logic. Cake or biscuit can both be eaten at any time of the day. (So can custard, rice pudding and other sweet things).

When scaled up to the size of a diner plate would it seem wierd to have it in slices?

Fig Rolls are neither cake nor biscuit. They are energy bars and a vital part of any serious athlete's diet.

If I was stranded on the biscuit isle, then Jaffa cakes the size of dinner plates would be my luxury item on Dessert Island discs.

Hmm, a fair point. convert has nearly, er, converted me with his scaling idea - but a normal size jaffa cake is still definitely in the biscuit camp, even if a full size one would be cake. Might have to take a trip to the local supermarket to do a bit of research.

Can you still get the giant Jaffa Cake cakes? They were fantastic.....
