MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I've had it done before, when I was a kid (with gas) and in my 20's (wisdom teeth) under local.
I've had a tooth (molar) that had been filled years ago, filling fallen out, tooth gone bad, drilled out and re-filled. Obviously still some badness in there, as just recently developed an abcess. Options were lengthy root treatment, or yank the ****er. I didn't fancy the root treatment, possible future problems and the tooth looked black anyway - pull it, was my answer, based on previous experiences.
Jesus Christ & sweet mother of Mary - 4 injections later (2 of which were into palate) and I could still feel tenderness in the side of my face, but told him to get on with it - 20 bloody minutes he was wrestling with it, I've never felt pain like it and he was sounding more and more concerned before it finally gave way - the bloody root on the thing was huge.
Sat here in agaony now, anaesthetic wearing off big time. Dentist told me Ibuprofen, notes say no Ibuprofen, so I've necked some strong Codeine Phosphate, some Paracetamol and I'm currently ignoring the advice not to drink alcohol, by sipping neat Scotch.
Bastsrd dentist.
I wouldn't bloody mind, but I religiously brush my teeth twice a day.
Ouch!
You have my sympathy. I was there last year....

Uhuh. I had a big molar out a few years ago. After yanking away for about ten minutes, he sat down and wiped the sweat off his brow declaring the tooth fixed in good and tight. So out came the bolt cutters and after a bit of a struggle he managed to get them into my mouth and round the tooth.
"This" he panted, "may feel a bit odd" and pushed the handles of the bolt cutter together, crushing my tooth into 4 separate shards which each came out nice and easy.
'Odd' isn't a word I'd use to describe the sound of one of my teeth shattering in pieces while simultaneously sending ice picks of pain all the way down to my gonads.
Then of course, the blood started flowing.
My dentist was sweating on it breaking, as he said it would then become a right pig to get out.
On the last two wrestles (in between pain breaks) I could hear it splintering, but fortunately it was out far enough to get the rest of it.
When you see pics of teeth you imagine the root to be curved in slightly - mine must have been 2cm across when it was out and protruding in an outward angle.
Last year in Delamere hit a tree and snapped 3 teeth, had to go to a dentist as an emergency apointment, had the 3 out together, then last week had another one out as it had snaped, saw a specialist dentist, little pain, no blood and healing nicely, they thought they may have had to cut the gum open to get it out.
The first 3 out the cracking and pulling was the worst for me,
I do wonder if some of it is down to the skill of the dentist.
I had all 4 wisdom teeth out under local at the hospital, minimal pain, no swelling.
One molar out at the emergency dentist, cracked into tiny pieces, lots of x-rays to make sure they got it all out, left with a hole from mouth straight into sinuses, much pain for a week (although not during the extraction itself)
Sounds nasty tafkas. I'm lucky as I have strangely short roots apparently and my last extraction (in November) came out in <10seconds.
Interesting ad on the right BTW on cheap implants.
😯
Lol - saw that ad.
Never seen roots like these mate and could see the dentist was struggling.
He kept stopping as I was moaning with pain, but on the last one, I just wanted him to carry on and get the bloody thing out. Stupidly I expected it to hurt less once out - wrong.
More whisky sir?
Oh, yes please and could |I have one of those Codeine thingies too please?
In a few years time you can go through it all again by having an implant which is what I am in the process of doing. They basically drill a hole into your jaw and screw in a screw and plug which is later attached to a crown. Had the first part of the proceedure done last week. 😕
Ive got toothache myself, and I'm now waiting for a Dentist to post so I can pounce, cat like, for some free advice. Anyone there?
had one out not muh pain
MTFU
Roger - I think I'll be able to live without an implant ta - can't really see it when I smile/talk as my big lips get in the way.
sweepy - just face the pain dude. It's gonna be there in spadefuls, either now with the toothache, in a few days/weeks, when it gets progressively worse and the whole side of your face hurts, or when you inevitably end up at the dentists.
My advice (after leaving things too long before the last filling) is get yourself booked in asap. If it hurts, it aint going away - it may do temporarily, but will only come back worse.
Get ****ed Junkyard - I've had 5 out in the past (some milk teeth mind) including 2 wisdoms.
None have even been on the scale compared to this one.
Having avoided the dentist for about 13 years I was forced to go back last year after a filling fell out of a molar. I had a lot of dental work done in my early teens and it wasn't pleasant so I had a big fear of the dentist from then on. I was anticipating getting the molar removed so in some sort of bizarre masochistic move I decided to watch some dentistry videos on youtube 😯
I had to laugh when I found this one, which described the removal as the "least traumatic" method.
Personally I don't consider smacking someone's teeth with a chisel as being the "least traumatic" method.
Ironically when I finally visited the dentist, I needed about 10 fillings over a few weeks and the actual work itself was completely pain free and actually quite a pleasant experience.
Had a lower widsom tooth out last week at the dentist.
Numbed me up good an proper, did not feel a things when he was taking it out. I just made some nasty crunching noises.
Hurt like hell with the injection wore off. Next day was tender but was fine after that.
I just have a large hole in my gum at the moment now !!
I had a filling fail on me a couple of years ago and decided I would go the RCT route. great choice, but the blocking anasthetic didn't kick in and he was forced to inject local into the ****ing exposed nerve of my molar. That twinged a bit I can tell you.
Anyway, long story short, RCT was done and, as I was leaving his surgery, the block kicked in. Niiiiice.
Bastsrd dentist
Well look on the bright side........it's given you something to moan about.
last year I got a very bad tooth out. the dentist was tiny and she was yanking at it for 20 minutes, it was horrendous, they got another dentist in, he was massive, and after about 5 truly dreadful minutes it came out.
That was bad, but the 'dry socket' i got was even worse, never known pain like it, totally incapacitated me for three days...
Be grateful you had a strong male dentist! , my dentist is a very slim Greek lady who's about 5'2" tall (read not strong). When she removed one of my first molars last year I had 7 injections and it took her 50 minutes to remove it, she had to rest her arm on 5 seperate occasions as it was aching.
Not as much as my ruddy gum did for 10 flippin days after!!!!
ernie_lynch, please do take this personally and **** off, you little pr**k!
quite a pleasant experience
Never EVER use this to describe dental work again!
ernie_lynch, please do take this personally and **** off, you little pr**k!
Charming 😐
I try to cheer you up by helping you to see the positive side of your horrendous experience, and this is how you react.
I don't know why I bother, I really don't.
.
And btw, if that delightful outburst is typical of the way you present yourself in the real-world, I can fully understand your "Bastsrd dentist" need to punish you.
he dentist was tiny and she was yanking at it for 20 minutes, it was horrendous, they got another dentist in, he was massive, and after about 5 truly dreadful minutes it came out.
Similar here, but the big dentist had to top up my injection and then snap the tooth in half to get it out 😯
Lol ernie - 2nd time you've told me I'm a moaning sod this week, so you deserved that one, but don't give me that psuedo-sympathetic bollox either.
STW is the real world innit?
Oh,
😉
is this the STW branch of Denplan now?
😆
Remarkable spam
Had a big molar out last year, similar story to you.
Thankfully it came out 'reasonably' cleanly, though it was worrying when dentist at dental hospital said "if you drink liquids and it starts coming out of your nose then pop back in....."
"if you drink liquids and it starts coming out of your nose then pop back in....."
Trust me, it's more worrying when it actually happens. It makes drinking interesting
bit of swearing at the end
*puts down the cocacola and choc spread sandwich*
*goes and brushes teeth*
😐
Can sympathise, had a couple of teeth pulled early last year that had become infected and inflamed. Both had had root canal before but they were knackered. The pain was mental taking them out, but it was worth it for the relief after.
What worked for me was lots of ice in the mouth beside the tooth/ hole, and whisky added to the ice helped as well!!
Hehe, I know what you mean but I have a funny image of inflamed teeth now 🙂
