Like, the one who has the 'best' or 'favourite' singing voice, & would thrash all those in bloody X factor!
I go for Roland Orzabal out of Tears for Fears. Saw him live at NEC yonks back & he sounded fantastic.
What's your view?
Kelly Jones off of Stereophonics
Nick Drake
Q-Tip
Mike Patton. No one else comes close.
Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams, Dennis Edwards and Levi Stubbs.
Matt Bellamy from Muse (early stuff)
Jeff Buckley from well Jeff Buckley (check out the album grace)
Mark Hollis, definately. Then probably Thom Yorke or Leonard Cohen.
gareth gates
Cash (of course).
Marvin Gaye. Teddy Pendergrass (Harold Melvin singer). Jeff Buckley. Lemmy.
What about Andre Young,a general practitioner as well i believe. ๐
Mike Patton has a phenomenal voice, such a wide range...
Burton C Bell from Fear Factory also has a surprisingly fantastic singing voice, he spent half his career making grunting noises but on the occasions he actually sang, like Timelessness and Resurrection, he was pretty fantastic.
Paul Carrack, Warren Zevon
John Lennon is up there.
Lemmy - obviously
Cat Stevens [or whatever he's called now]
Noel thingy, Liams brother
Elvis could knock out a good tune.
Chris Cornell
Mike Patton +2 from FNM to Fantomas to Peeping Tom just an amazing talent.
Rob Smith from the Cure I like and for just out and out nuttyness Fe Waybil from the Tubes.
Otis Redding
That welsh dude with the white hair, no not Iceman...

FORD
Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden
Meatloaf - once saw him at the NEC, we were in the rear block and they turned the PA off and he sang, could hear him clear as day!!!
Brian johnson - AC/DC
Mick Hucknall - not my cup of tea but very good live
also dare I say it - Michael Jackson
would thrash all those in bloody X factor!
Well I doubt that - if you actually WATCH X Factor you would probably find many of them have very good singing voices. Much better than some of those listed above (such as Brian Johnson - I LOVE AC/DC but I would never ever suggest he has a good singing voice!!!).
Of course, 'best' and 'favourite' are very different to technical ability though.
Hmmm
thats true most x factor contestants have more going for em than any of the judges or stars that apear on the show.
mrs cole must cringe as yet another contestant is better than she will ever be.
None of my favourite vocalists would thrash anyone on the X-Factor.
and thank **** for that!
FWIW - past: Jon King, John Lydon, Bowie, Stephen Malkmus
Present: MF Doom, Doseone, Andrew VanWyngarden (MGMT), RQM
Lemmy - obviously
Lemmy on x factor. I would pay to watch that.
Mat Munroe
[s]Brian Johnson[/s] Bon Scott ๐
Mr Mercury
J.Cash
[s]Brian Johnson[/s] Bon Scott
And continuing the theme...
[s]Bruce Dickinson[/s] Paul Dianno
Paul Rodgers
Don Henley
Jello Biafra
Justin Sullivan
Andrew Eldritch
Carl McCoy
Maynard James Keenan, once again...
Do they have to be alive? If not, - Layne Staley; had major issues but his haunting vocals stay with you.
New AIC singer sounds eerily similar...
Well I HAVE watched the X Factor (although I don't make a habit of it) & yes some of them do have good singing voices but tbh I don't think any on this series are anything special or different. I know what your'e saying about 'best' & 'favourite' being 2 different things though.
Bonn Scott & Brian Johnson I love the sound of but they were/are crap 'singers' imo.
Chris Rea's another one of my favourites but he can only sing stuff he's suited to.
Ozzy's another one I like.
All a matter of taste & opinion I suppose.
Weller (early Jam or Solo but NOT Style Council), quite like Newton Faulkner stuff (havent seen him live yet).
For rock stuff for me its got to be Zac De La Rocha from RATM.
Blokey from the Pogues.
Robert Plant, both Zeppelin days and more recent on [url=
Sand
John Martyn up to about 1980 [url=
don't want to know
mastiles - agree re BJ comment, not technically gifted but one of my faves ๐
Chuck Prophet
Eddie Vedder
Chris Cornell
Grant Lee Phillips
Michael Stipe
Freddie Mercury
Bon Scott/Brian Johnson. True, they're/were not technically gifted singers but their voices fit the music perfectly and instantly recognisable.
Eddie Vedder
IJahMan Levi
Graham Parker
John Lydon
Don Van Vliet
Frank Black
Etc etc
Who the hell crossed out Bruce Dickinson and put Paul Dianno?! ๐ฏ
No comparrison! Bruce is far more gifted, Dianno should stick to punk, though he has got better with age I'll give you that!
I'd nominate, (in no particular order) Marty Robbins(Pete Townsend is a big fan apparently),Jim Reeves (voice like ovaltine), Nat King Cole, Pavarotti? John Denver.
I like a lot of metal too but I reckon most would be classed as distinctive and not "good".
Loads, all good.
Robert Palmer (sadly missed), Van theMan, Stevie Wonder, Adrian Borland, John Martin, Peter Gabriel etc etc etc.
Got a soft spot for Rod the Mod though, the old Leggy Blonde-Addicted Serial Monogamist.
All together now: "I yam saaaaaaaaaaaiiiiliiiiiiingggg..." ๐
Paul Rodgers - Free
Van Morrison
Warren Haynes - Allman Brothers
Crosby
Stills
Nash
Lowell George - Little Feat
Donald Fagan - Steely Dan
