hi there,

fortunate enought tobe getting a ting a bespoke suit made for me for my wedding in October.

I have chosen a dark red floral lining for the suit and waistcoat back with a navy blue suit.

White shirt but I’m struggling with tie/pocket square colours.

any advise?

whatever you do don't buy a matching tie and pocket square set.

ignore the colour of the lining when looking to match as that isn’t seen.

the tie can be the focal point and then the square can echo the tones or slightly contrast the rest of the clothing or the other way round.

the trick is to understand the texture/formality thing which is you can use a smooth silk square or tie with a fine suit or knitted/tweed tie and linen square with something less formal but you wouldn’t wear those softer textures with something formal. likewise a plain silk tie and square wouldn’t be worn with tweed, they can be mixed up and rules broken but it generally doesn't look right if you go to far apart.

the other ‘rule’ is to only have one bright/wacky/contrasty thing be it hank/tie/socks/waistcoat. one is fine but all of them and you look like a clown and visually they all fight with each other.

the best place for inspiration is instagram as there are quite few tie and square accounts.

there is this one which is obviously not that formal and a very trendy italian  https://www.instagram.com/theitaliancut/

but a bit of googling will turn up some inspiration

if you are in london the Drakes factory shop is worth a look

A pink tie?

Just tell her the 'ideally' you want to wear a burgundy (with other colours in it or any other colour not pink) tie and a mainly pink pocket square.

pink ties look a bit 'Las Vegas theme wedding' IMHO.

apologies if you are having a vegas theme wedding.

edit: this forum quote thing on iPad sucks
