well that was a tad embarrassing for the other teams over 1 sec back for the nearest non merc ! 🙄
Yes indeed, have the FIA called in the UCI yet to check for motors?
That banner is ace 😀
I'm not a big follower of F1 (or this thread), so forgive me if this is old news
Ricciardo's on R5 just now talking about being a fan of thrash metal, having just sung a line of "love is all around" in response to a question abot whether he's feeling it at Silverstone
Yesterday I heard him saying that, after a race, he needs to check himself in a mirror and make sure he's still a 9 or 10 before relaxing for the evening
Good work IMO (unless he's a complete arse, of course)
Is Brawn definitely returning or was that specualtion?
Get on with it ZZzzz
10 second penalty for Palmer on top of the time that he'd already lost. That'll learn him twice.
*conspiracy theorists hat* lewis has a problem @ baku "can't tell you lewis"..... british gp rosberg has an issue and straight "go to mode...."
british gp rosberg has an issue and straight "go to mode...."
And it's immediately leapt upon by the Stewards. No great conspriracy.
Looks like a slam dunk penalty...
Hopefully 😀
merc conspiracy not an FIA one 😉 I don't believe in it the engineer panicked and blurted out the solution !
Rosberg had a problem that would have stopped the car (stuck in 7th); an instruction to keep the car going is allowed under the rules. The second communication which advised avoiding 7th and then telling him how to avoid 7th is more of an issue. It's the second communication which is under investigation.
if it's a safety issue the only message allowed should be "strat mode 4 box box box".
Not if you're about to stop the car on track...
and yet he passed the pit lane entry another 6 or 7 times
Rosberg: “Gearbox problem.”
Engineer: “Driver default 1-0-1, chassis default 0-1, chassis default 0-1.”
Engineer: “Avoid seventh gear, Nico, avoid seventh gear.”
Rosberg: “What does that mean, I have to shift through it?”
Engineer: “Affirm Nico, you need to shift through it. Affirm, you need to shift through it.”
the conversation and nothing about being stuck in 7th

After the conversation, yes. So?
the conversation and nothing about being stuck in 7th
You could see it on the steering wheel and the team would be able to see it from the telemetry.
so it was never a safety issue, it was a protect 2nd place issue.
you get the feeling if it was manor or Sauber, 10 sec penalty without even so much of a second thought! 😉
Ridiculous delay! I sense some strongly put arguments...
or contemplating something more serious than a 10 sec penalty.... must be a DQ on the cards
A car stopping on the track IS a safety issue when those coming from behind you are doing 150+mph
Maybe they were watching the Wimbledon final first?
Regardless, that photo of Lewis Hamilton crowd surfing at the British Grand Prix will go down in history as one of the best!
Nico should be penalised, partly for being Britney and partly for receiving team help. Hamo! Hamo!
10 second time penalty for Nico, max takes p2, nico drops to p3.

Yay! Although I feel slightly bad for saying that.
Britney robbed Max of his rightful podium celebration. Wish he'd take his sour mug and eff off. Lewis will now turn up the playful mind games on him further 😀
Penalty was for telling him how to avoid 7th rather than telling him what setting to use. Millions per race and he needs to be told that you avoid 7th by going from 6th to 8th...
And he kept using 7th anyway. Not worth the penalty.
Interestingly it sounds like telling him what engine and chassis settings he needed was allowable under the rules
He is indeed well paid but I think the reason he asked how to avoid 7th gear is that you can't change from 6th to 8th in an F1 car hence the car sticking in 7th which made it appear he was still using it ... Alway I think they deliberately broke the rules knowing Britney would get a penalty giving Lewis an advantage in the championship (joking).
That sign that sands posted is genius! #rubbinghisnoseinit 😆
Well I've just caught up it. Couldn't catch it yesterday, there was some proper racing going on elsewhere.
Max eh? There's the future of F1.
Yep - Verstappen's overtake on Rosberg for P2 on inters was special - absolutely millimetre perfect!! I think I actually jumped off the sofa shouting "go on lad!"
My take on yesterday; tarmac run offs have helped ruined F1. The amount of times the top guys just ran it off the 'circuit' but returned with no penalty was ridiculous. Considering it was a damp race it was all pretty formulaic with Hamilton cruising to victory. The only decent moments of interest with the Verstappen's overtake on Rosberg, and Vettels spin. Even Palmer missing a wheel was mostly missed by the TV.
It's not so much the runoff areas, as the camera angles. They're zoomed in from a distance so any sense of speed is lost in translation.
F1 would be the perfect sport to experiment with camera drones.

Definitely.
Yep, as much as I don't want to see them smashing themselves up, there needs to be some reason to attempt the corner, even at the expense of a lock up/flat spotting a tyre/losing time or speed.P previously you'd stick it in the gravel and game over, or you'd e driving on cack tyres fora good while. Maybe they need mandatory drive through or something to make it worthwhile trying to make it stick.
It's not beyond the wit of man to come up with an automatic system that detects when they've exceeded circuit limits, iirc it's already in place in some series. Next question is what to do about it - if there's any leniency then it will be exploited by someone, so some enforced time penalty but applied immediately so the result on the track is the actual result. Maybe reducing ers deployment for the next lap, though that would be seen as another artificial tweak.
Or just stick armco 100mm outside the white line and make every track as severe as Monaco.
Amazing stuff from Verstappen!
Halo on the Red Bull today at Silverstone - it doesn't get any better looking with familiarity. Not the way to go IMO...
http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2016/07/12/pictures-2016-f1-testing-day-eleven-silverstone/
The screen was better than that I reckon. At least that looked like it belonged on a car.
Didn't the screen fail the safety tests though? Think that's why the halo is the least worst option
I thought it just wasn't so far along in the safety tests, rather than failing? Could have misunderstood though.
i saw it mentioned somewhere, possible on BBC that screen had failed the test where they fire a tyre at it.
