I suspect that a patch of external render has blown, can anyone offer some insight on how much it'll cost to fix. either sqm or day rate. and how many metres is realistic in a day.

This is Gloster, as I assume location matters,

Good luck with that at this time of year!

We've been trying to get a quote from our previously reliable builder and tbh I'm getting nowhere.

Getting the repair to match the in situ render can prove tricky, esp. on a small patch.

Rendering a ballpark will cost a fortune, some of them are huge!

Have you checked the rest of the wall for more blown patches?
By the time you've factored in scaffolding, etc it could be quite spendy ☹️

Has it def blown? I think I'd be leaving it until it actually falls off!

If i tap the area with a hammer, it sounds different and it appears to be bowing out a bit. So i don't know, just strongly suspect. The other issue is the paint is a bit tatty in places. So i would like to repaint the wall, but no point repainting and then having the render fall off.

We had a few dummy areas on the back and side We decided to do the whole house (3sides) to freshen it up.

The firm we got did a decent enough job but were the phoenix type company who have ceased trading twice now.

I never fully read the quote and missed the bit excluding the rear extension. Funnily enough a  cash payment got it included.

I still have their 25 year / 5 minute guarantee somewhere

It cost a lot with a scaffold etc.

I've had a reputable firm quote me £1300 for a chimney stack recently

I would expect to pay £1000 - £1500 for the scaffolding.

Then £250 a day for a plasterer / rendering bod, plus £180 a day for a knocker upper / second in command.

Then materials like 2 x ton bag of sand ( sharp / soft) , 20 bags of cement ish £400 delivered . then depends if  they need to mesh bond the wall .

A day for scratch coat , another day for top wash . Youll be on the wrong side of £4000 i expect .

Hang on . Who is  removing the old render and taking it away ? Add £350 for a 12yrd skip and one more day labour, or DIY it if your able and own an sds

Thanks, it's something to start with, one further cost, would the render need a paint coat or not?

No requirement for it... Plus it needs to dry properly before that which probs means the spring before you could get onto it.

If it's blown it will almost fall off!

Better just check is this OPC cement render, as opposed to Lime, then check for any cracks elsewhere (they may be small), what bell/beading maybe required, but time and scaffold being main cost, need to talk with local builder to get a feel for timescale and cost, then hope they have a date in 2026;)
