Folks,

I've been roped into running an exhibition for my company.

It's been years since i've done one, so what do visitors to the stand expect? Do they want freebie type stuff (USB drives, pens etc)? Raffle draw for an ipad sort of thing? I'm not an in your face kind of guy so i wont be pouncing on visitors!

Any tips? Any experiences that work / don't work? What would attract you to a stand and more importantly what would put you off?

Over to you team!! 🙂

gizzits are for students and tire kickers.

raffles are always rigged. (although i always put my card into the competitors raffle for a laugh)

pay for decent thick pile carpet. after three days on your feet you'll thank me.

decent LED lighting, halogens will cook you.

He asked what would attract people to the stand, not how to keep them there. (-:

Totally on the money with students though. We used to go on college trips to computer shows and it was a massive competition to see who could come back with the most loot.

Speaking of swag,

Now that I'm no longer a grubbing student, what's the etiquette for acquiring gizzits these days? is it the done thing just to go "yoink" without breaking stride, or is it expected that you feign interest in their products for a couple of minutes wasting both our time?

depends where they are placed.

front counter? yoink away.

further back into the stand, waste both our time.

I spent a good few years doing them and proper coffee is always popular. In fact we'd have people queuing on the stand in the morning before the baristas had even had time to fire up their machines. You'd be amazed at how long very well paid medical professionals will wait for a free cup of coffee.
