I want to copy tabular data out of plain text and paste it into Excel, but I want it to recognise it as columnar data and paste it into columns. But it doens't do this. I want a wizard like the one when you import a CSV file, but for pasting.

Is this possible? I swear it used to work.

Oh wait, I found it. Paste it in, then highlight and go to 'text to columns' in the data tab. As you were.

Highlight the row label - grey bit at the edge - so the whole row is highlighted and ctrl-v to paste in?

I think once you’ve pasted it in once and set up the text to columns, it’ll try do the same again for any further pasted data in that session
