Is there anyway to reference one workbook with another? I'm wondering if I can make a very basic stock/invoicing system, and would like the invoice to reference a stock worksheet with prices in it. So you would type in a code, Excel would use that to open a file called that code, and one cell would hold the list price, or the cost price? Is that even possible, or do I need to buy a specialised program?
Please bear in mind I am not what you would call 'good' in excel! Cheers for any help!
Yes, it's very easy. Instead of using cell references in formulae such as Sheet1!A1, you just use something like "C:\my documents\otherworkbook.xls"Sheet!A1.
Bit more to it than that, but you get the picture. Just open the 2 separate files and try clicking to generate the cross-references and you'll get the idea.
If you open the workbook you wish to refrence you can just link to it like it was a sheet within the source workbook.

I think that the other posters have answered most of you question, with regard to using Excel for stock ordering/invoicing I'm sure that you could by do so creating a workbook with the necessary lookups and then saving it as a template.
You could by a specialist program or have a look for something on Source Forge. This looked quite interesting

Once you start to use software for orders and invoicing the most important thing to remember is to backup your data/applications.
