In col A I have rows of user questions across all HR categories. In col B are drop-down options - HR categories eg pay. Col c is dependent drop-down which is a sub category of the HR categories in col B.

Is there a way of Automating or refining the col B and therefore col c too drop-down options based on keywords from col a?

Something like dynamic arrays or lookup?

Thanks

How big are your ranges, there's an easy way but it's clumsy and not nice if you're filling a reasonable range of options, if each box has only two or three options then I'd cheat:

Populate the fill range of drop downs with ifs such that the data in those cells changes depending on the outcome of the cell before

If it's more than a handful of choices this isn't really an Excel job, if it needs to be now is about the time to be learning VB.

Also won't look tidy if the number of questions changes depending on the first two selections.

Yep, easier in VBA but there is a bit of a learning curve to get up and running.....

I'm not sure it's ever going to look tidy, it is easy though 🤣.

Indeed, and this is what MS Access [other database software is available] is for.

Actually, I think that's precisely what access is for, 30% of everything people insist on doing in Excel.

Dynamic named ranges are what you're after, but depending on how sophisticated you want the matching to be they can be a PITA to set up and maintain - or can be simple and effective.
