Bad things happen to me for a reason.

I've tracked them carefully, the reason tends to be 'I'm a dick' then bad things happen.

I've recently experienced a close member of my family passing away years before their time. I was telling one of the girls at work and she said this to me. I had to walk away but tbf afterwards I thought it's more to do with mental attitude, trying to find positives from a negative but still....

When God shuts a door, he opens a window,

He should turn the heating down.

Which is why he's banned from most major airlines.

I'm sorry to hear for your loss OP.

My dad was killed in a car crash when he was 48. I was 18 at the time. I spent many years coming to terms with it and finally felt closure about 8 or so years ago, some 25years following his death. I can now genuinely say, with my hand on my heart, that the greatest gift he gave me, was his death.

Good from bad, every time. And our life experience is how we deal with loss.

I'm sorry jekkyl, my post appears incredibly insensitive in this context. I, like you I guess, wanted to highlight how stupid these sayings are.

There's a whole world between cause and effect and sheer rotten luck.

*Edit. Condolences for your painful loss.

If you ever feel the need to speak to Samaritans to unload, don't hesitate. They can even ring you back if you're skint.

Everything does happen for a reason. People just mistake that for meaning that it's not arbitrary and possibly random.

Op sorry for your loss

One of the hitch hikers books began with...

Anything that happens, happens
Anything that in happening causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen
And on...

I rather like THAT for some reason, at least it's accurate.

Northwind has a point (you know technically rather than contextually) ๐Ÿ˜›

No it definitely does not. I lost my father when he was 29. One of my sisters won't see her own four children grow up. What matters is how you cope with the hand life deals you. There is no point reasoning. Life - you just have to get on with it. Condolences to the OP. Hold onto a couple of good memories and talk to someone about your loss.

Sorry for your loss, jekkyl, I have the saying 'This too shall pass' tattooed in Ogham around my wrist, it's something I honestly believe, that even the worst things are diminished in their effects by the passage of time.

"And what if the powers above doe wreck me out on the wine-dark sea? I have a heart that is inured to suffering and I shall steel it to endure that too. For in my day I have had many bitter and shattering experiences in war and on the stormy seas. So let this new disaster come. It makes but one more."

You live, you die, you rot, that's all you've got.

Life is too serious to take it seriously.

What are the chances of getting held hostage/shot whist getting a hot-chocolate in one of the safest cities in the world? So low that it's effectively random - nothing you can do other than accept it.
