... there is a pop up window full of porn appears. Normally such a thing wouldnt bother me and might even come in useful, but it's not that great when I'm using the computer on the train.
Any ideas?

It's not that. I have a separate machine with a bigger screen for porn viewing purposes.

My Safari (on the Mac) had an update yesterday. Might be worth trying an update and seeing if that clears the problem.
