Eurosport kindly auto renewed my subscription and have taken £39.99 out of my bank, I tried to cancel on the day of auto renewal quoting cooling off period. On their site it states.....

When you purchase a Eurosport Pass you specifically acknowledge that you lose your statutory right to cancel your contract during the cooling off period and receive a full refund without giving any reason.

Is that even legal?

I would imagine so.

There are exceptions where you have instant access to a service.

Edit- Also renewals are probably not treated in the same way as a new purchase.

Anything where they can (potentially) show the service is delivered and or customised can be exempted from the cooling off period.

The extent to which it has been delivered is arguable (see plane tickets, hotel bookings and so on that you can't cancel) but, until it's challenged successfully in court it's not likely to change.

In your particular instance you'd also struggle with a renewal to argue you'd not seen what you were buying I'd think, and they'd just say you agreed to the purchase 12 months ago so your 50 weeks outside your cooling off period any how

If you agreed to their terms and didn't read the small print, most likely.

This, unfortunately. I did also once accidentally take out a subscription to an adult service but it was rubbish so I tried to cancel it using various arguments like cooling off period, distance selling (and the fact it really wasn't as XXX as they claimed it was) etc but I decided to suck it up as I didn't want anyone else finding out that I had just subscribed to Over 40s Readers' Wives Busy Babes Anal LadyBoys XXX or whatever it was.

Only if you are willing to lie to the bank and claim you didn’t authorise the renewal a year ago and then forget to cancel it.

Why did you wait 365 days to cancel ? Just enjoy your years subscription , but remember to cancel early next year 👍👍

Dreadful customer service a few years ago, had to get my bank involved, and vowed never to use them again.

well someone at eurosport has seen sence

I’ve discussed your case with my supervisor Bruneep and I’m happy to inform you I’ve been allowed to make an exception from our policy for you.

So we will actually honor your request of a refund as a gesture of goodwill.
I’ve passed your feedback on internally myself, as this is the kind of feedback that helps us improve our services.

Hope to welcome you back to the Player in the future!
