An insurance co has renewed a policy I specifically asked them not to. They had my card details on file and charged it.

I spoke to them the week before last and they said they would issue a refund it would take 6-7 days. As of today the refund hasn't been issued. Spoke to them again and they confirmed a refund request has been issued and it would take 6-7 days. Spoke to a bod higher up and someone in complaints all very apologetic lots of promises but still no actual refund. They can only issue *requests* for a refund.

Before getting the credit card company and/or the insurance ombudsman involved what would be the best way to get this resolved?

I'd just get the credit card company involved.

Weird - Swinton did the same to me and the money was back in my account the next day. Just a delay, I suspect, so wouldn't be worth involving the ombudsman.

Somewhere on their website will be a link to a formal complaints procedure.

Unless you've jumped through those hoops, I doubt the ombudsman will want to get involved.

Have been careful to jump through the hoops and make a formal complaint but the refund still hasn't happened, despite their promises.

Everytime I talk to them they confirm a refund request has been made to their accounts but they haven't actually refunded me

Is it time to bring out the big guns

Funny how it never takes two weeks to take money off you in the first place, isn't it.

They can only issue *requests* for a refund.

Issue requests to whom? Find out and talk to them instead.

If it is a credit card - contact the card issuer.

Have you made your complaint in writing yet? Still got that to do before the Ombudsman

The normal call-centre staff are likely to be telling the truth, but there's a finance dept somewhere that will be able to say what's really going on
