If so that is very annoying 🙁

Was expecting it. But yes that's annoying. Will have to work out any easy alternative way of embedding images in threads from Google photos as unfortunately the stw forum software can't handle Google image addresses

Yes and yes. I've failed to find how to replicate key functionality with Google photos so have moved to Flickr. I used cloudsfer to migrate.

Doesn't appear to be any simple way to do this, I've tried a few workarounds and nothing has worked.

Imgur is what I also use for photos on here - decided eventually that it was less hassle simply uploading to that than all the workarounds involving picasa. Still hoping Google might add easy hotlinking to Google photos

Imgur is fine for disposable hosting. But you never want to use it for proper storage/management.

So as before, using url shortener goo.gl works. Just need to streamline the shortening. Must be a phone app for that

The goo.gl url shortener app with the Greenland logo on Google play works fine and speeds up the process.

I can see the images, so it is the url is too long then is it? Do you also have to use a shareable link? I tried taking the URL and shoving ?.jpg on as it was suggested that'd work... but didn't.

From the image in photo archive (the new Picasa) rhc or press hold and "open image in new tab" or copy image address. Paste into a url shortener and use the shorter url in the img tags in stw.

If someone tweaked the field character limit in bb press we shouldn't need to do the enshortening

The show stopper for me is you can no longer just give a link to all your galleries. You have to share individual ones via Google photos. Bizarre decision by Google.

Progress apparently 🙁

I shall be checking out imgur. Now wondering if all my old links to Picasa hosted images still work?

Weird. Works on desktop, chrome/safari/firefox, but not on iOS, chrome/safari.

I think so as I think they were links to the permanent storage address, as per what Stoner is now posting but via a URL shorterner as they appear to have changed something on the URLs too.

If your username is in the link, no. If your user Id number is in the link, yes.

Edit: just checked and mine are OK (the above may be more for gallery links than images).

Nope not removed. I think session shares look a bit flaky and maintaining permissions. I was lining from images in the auto back up folder which may be why permissions aren't right. If I use a "shared" album I expect it works more reliably.

On iOS-Safari/Chrome, the upside down map, which I can see on Chrome/OSX, isn't visible.

Weird. And annoying. Since all my photos are taken on my phone and automatically uploaded to Google photos, I want to be able to use it as a host. Need to find some reliable work round

Same here, but can see them all. I am logged into my Google account which might explain it.

Can't see n0b0dy0ftheg0at's though.

Edit: can't see any using Firefox. I'm going to bet that you need to be logged into a Google account.

So I think from now on I shall upload images to imgur for sharing. Bit of a pain having to add the step but it looks like Google have completely given up on public image hosting

Its still less hassle than it used to be using Google/Picasa even when that worked though - far more steps added with Google. In fact it's barely more hassle than using Google would be even if it worked properly. Personally I went that way ages ago.

My pics are all still automatically uploaded to Google for archiving rather than relying on Imgur for that - I only use Imgur for hotlinking.

Still confused as to what is going on with Google Photos and getting them to show in forums.

If you right-click the image box in my earlier post, from when I was out and about on my Nexus7 and click "open image in new tab," for me it then shows the shared folder containing just my skinny Wazoo.

That last pic of the map hosted on Imgur is the only one that's shown up on my pad with the latest version of iOS 9.

Scotroutes - I am on a Chromebook and can see a map of the Cairngorms.

I have been using Picasa for years and am mightly pissed off with what Google have done with this - they've stripped functionality from what was an excellent service.

I generally use https://postimage.org for posting images here.
Quick and simple to use. No login required (unless you want to keep control of the image).

Rugby!!

I think it only works if it comes from an Album marked as Public (and I don't think you can create one of those now)

Official word is Google Photos is replacing Picasa (which is getting shut down). They haven't got all the functionality in place yet.

I can see the spider too, but not most of the other images posted.

BTW the easy way to check if other people can see your pic (at least if they're using the same browser, though I don't think it's often browser specific) is to try opening the page in incognito mode if your browser has one of those.
