Well I had the old handycam up the ronson and I kid you not, the pain was excruciating.
The guy took no prisoners with the pre-camera finger lube either. Happy days - not!

Going for an endoscopy soon, should be a breeze after that lol

If it's going in your mouth, make sure you see them give it a rinse first.
In this case you do know where it's been and it's only fair they wash the sticky bits off it first.

I think you'll get a sedative jab in the back of the hand. you'll be awake but you won't gag.
Oh dear !

The anticipatory fear is worse than the actual experience!

Honestly, MrN. I hope all goes well for you!

I have had it 3 times

Once when put under and twice awake.
It only lasts a couple of minutes but they were probably the worst 2 minutes of my life.... it is not painful but incredibly uncomfortable.... sorry ... or just MTFU, i couldnt..

Nurse persuaded me the sedation was for big girls and to take it like a man. I wish I'd ignored her:) Imagine deepthroating John Holmes....

Just MTFU, open the throat and let it through, it's just like swallowing something thats not been chewed quite enough.

As one who struggles swallowing tablets the thought of being awake filled me with dread. Thankfully, I was sedated. Woke up to a cup of tea & a menu for lunch - nice 😀

I've had 3 for GERD also, no pain they numb the back of yer throat with a spray so its fine, makes you burp like hell as they pump air to inflate your tubes so they can see more. Hopefully they'll elt youwatch ont he screen, interesting looking at yer own guts.

If its an EUS (ultrasougd) thats bigger and they will sedate you, mine was like this,

Him "I'm going to inject you with this and I want you to count to 10, when you get to 10 you'll be out."

Me "one ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"

Sure i saw on QI last week you can swallow a sword up to 21 cms long, without damage, so best take a tape measure.

Oh and i had one a few years ago, you wear a small childs nightie, because its to small, and then some male nurse takes hold of your hand and then the DR inserts what looks like a black truncheon down your throat, with a set of flashing LED lights on the ennd ansd a palystation controler on the other.

When i asked the male nurse why he held my hand so tight and did we have a date for that night, he said it was because some people struggle and try to pull the camera out, and it may damage them or they fall off the table.

ITS UNCOMFORTABLE, BUT DOESNT HURT.

I had one a few years ago, the "uncomfortable" version

Thankfully they dosed up so highly on whatever it was I have no recollection of what happened.

just go for the spray at the back of the throat, dont bother with being sedated,at least that way as soon as its done you can leave straight away, i was in and out both times withen the hour.
its easy ive had it done twice and its easy to be honest
just relax and swallow when they tell you and its wicked watching the screen with all your insides wriggling about, they will proberbly take some tissue from your insides also whilst they are in there.
you will have a sore throat for a few days after though,
easy, easy, easy 🙂

It's a pretty boring job for them, make it more interesting by swallowing something interesting just before you go in... a few dead spiders or some small beads or a condom filled with sugar

😉

I've just got home from having a colonoscopy, sat here farting like hell 😀 When the nurse was giving the tube a quick rinse afterwards I'm sure I heard her say that will be clean enough for MrNutt 😯

Just kidding (not about having had a colonoscopy unfortunately) hope it goes well.

I had an ERCP which is a long haul version of the endoscopy. In this procedure they navigate through the stomach and duodenum and bile duct and inject a contrast dye into the pancreas. They then take about six million x-rays of the pancreas leaving you more irradiated than Hiroshima's town crier.

I had the local anaesthetic throat spray. Yack.
And I had Midazolam (Hypnovel) which is a sedative and amnesia inducing.

I can remember gagging like **** when they hauled the bastard back out.

Not nice.

I had one for exactly the same reason a few months back. I asked for the sedation and they gave it - don't recall anything from the procedure. Diagnosis was GERD, opted for and had surgery to tighten up the stomach valve - worked a treat!

Hi, I had one last week.

Was offered the sedative but they were on about me having to have an escort home and someone there with me that night - so I said I would just have the throat spray.

It wasn't all that bad, it is a bit weird, and it does make you gag a bit and burp, but it's very quick and if you can just relax it's ok, honestly.

I had a sore throat for a day or two but that was all.

I had keyhole surgery. They did a procedure called a nissen fundification. They wrap the top of the stomach around the outside of the stomach valve to reinforce the closing of it. I had it done 6 weeks ago. Since then it has totally stopped heartburn and reduced reflux massively. Before that I could not go a day without prescription ppi's. A 2 day stay in hossi and sloppy food for a week after.

I had one before my coeliac diagnosis, it wasn't all that nice as it turns out, I didn't want sedation so I just got the local anaesthetic spray. I actually found that pretty unpleasant by itself as it messed up my swallow reflex, quite uncomfortable... But the scoping wasn't too bad at all.

Please can we call it GORD? It's only GERD if you're a stupid American who can't spell Oesophagus properly.

Also Nissen Fundoplication...

Yours,

A medical pedant.

i had one, but they put the camera down the end of my penis! incredibly uncomfortable, especially the stinging gell they inject in the end.

They were in there for ages, and at one point inserted a metal claw down the inside of the tube to retrieve 'something interesting' from my bladder.

Why would they be examining your penis for gastric problems??? wtf?
Claw for biopsy I guess but your bladder isn't examined like the camera down your mouth like Mr Nutt. Your throat should be better in 3 days but take something for it even honey.

I had a stomach bug last month and side effect was acid irritating my stomach and esophagus so I'm on PPI's for 4 bloody weeks to heal/wait and see or more weeks but I can't eat more one meal a day which sucks and riding is slow and if it doesn't go away I might have to have Mr Nutt's examination to see whats going on with that valve. with a camera down the gob.

😳 😥 👿
Frigging sucks.

Only twice with the metal claw, you're lucky, I had 'routine' biopsy's taken every 5 cm from the start to end of my colon 😯
Hearing the doc saying open, close then watching the nurse yank the claw back like she's starting a lawnmower isn't something I want to do again in a hurry.
