I ordered some stuff (not bike related) before Christmas from an Ebay seller in Germany and paid via Paypal. The stuff never came so I emailed them chasing it up last week. They didn't reply by email, but have sent me a payment via Paypal for the original amount, however, it's a straight payment rather than a refund of the original transaction, so Paypal have taken fees from it.

It's only a couple of quid so I'll probably let it go, but at the back of my mind I'm wondering if there's some kind of scam going on. Anyone had anything similar? Did you bother to pursue it?

I suppose they could claim it back just before the deadline, which would put you outside of your original purchase/payment claim deadline

Unliekly to be a scam, can't see how he would benefit (although pp are up on the deal)
Sounds like he has send you £x rather than refunded you £x, in the case of refund the fees would be taken from the net amount, £0 in this case, but if you send him money he pays fees and then if sends you money you pay fees again.
Not sure what you can do about it, maybe reject the payment and ask him to do it again via refund? Do you want to reject though, bird in hand etc.

Yes, that's what I was thinking - deadline for me to dispute the original purchase is 31/01.
