My vehicle is listed on eBay as a classified ad - I've got 25 'watchers' - Wtf? It's like cutting an advert out of the local paper and pinning it to your fridge, what's the point? You won't know whether it sold or not, if you want it pick up the phone! Rant over, I despair sometimes.

They won't know how much it sells for coz there's no bidding! I guess therein lies the answer!
And since when has Singletrack forum been exclusively bikes? My mistake, should have been chat!

Erm, don't people "watch" things they think they might be interested in, so they can find them again easily?

That's what I do anyway.

Yes. That's what people do. That's what the watch function is there for. Not sure why the OP needs that explaining to be honest.

I do it to make my own pintrest style board to shown the Mrs and justify why xxx is such a reasonable purchase - to show her the 'portfolio of purchasing opportunities' (normally liberally sprinkled with expensive dross to make my desired option the obvious and logical choice). Is yours expensive dross OP? (get your stealth ad in now to prove me wrong)

If There are no bids then that tells the watchers something. I use the function regularly. I do buy stuff off my watch list, but certainly a select few items.

That's what they all say.

It'll be up again in a months time with a 20% price drop.

I don't understand the rant? People watch because they may want to view again easily without suffering the annoyance of having to search??? You can do the same thing with other classifed sites. It's a bit like the old fashion way of circling an ad in biro within the printed version of auto trader.

Personally I can't understand why you'd watch a classified ad. You either want it or you don't. If you want it you pick up the phone or make an offer. At least get into negotiation. If you snooze, you lose and it's gone. It took me months to find this one. But end of subject as far as I'm concerned.

The thing is whilst it may make no sense to use it's a broadly used function on all vehicle classified sites.

Still if that's the only thing that boils your piss dude, I'm well jealous.

I don't get your moan OP......
If someone is looking for a certain type of car then maybe they are compiling a shortlist to compare each one, just a thought?

I bought a car from eBay. I knew what I wanted, so I searched through and added several to a watch list. Then I could compare them, show them to the other half to make sure she approved, etc.

I don't understand why this is a problem, to be honest.

I'd much rather have lots of watchers than none at all!

Hairy, can you not list it with a buy it now plus a best offer?

Did this with my tractor and had 60+ watchers when it sold [for the full asking price]. There were a lot of people making daft offers though (£1.5k less than asking price).

You do know that most bidding won't happen until the last 5 minutes of the auction don't you?
I'll often watch stuff on e-bay for a number of reasons.
1) I want to know how much these things sell for, so I'll watch a few to get a feel for the pricing.
2) Its a bookmark so I can monitor how much the bidding is going so I can find it again easily.
Its no big deal, from experience you'll always get way more watchers than bidders. So just chill until the last couple of hours.

Scrap what I said above. It's just daft people who have not yet worked out that not everything on ebay is in an auction 😉

Don't be such a spoilsport. We should let him bid if he wants to.

low ball when it doesn't sell.

he's keeping it if it doesn't sell, apparently.

Although I'd probably treat that as a negotiating position rather than an actual fact if I saw it in an ad...

Sold my car using an ebay classified ad and the fee was only £15.

Quite a few watchers and guys asking lots of questions but eventually got my buyer and all went really well! You only need one buyer.

After it went had a few messages asking if it was still available. No, you blew it!

Struggling to understand the point of watching if it's not for this exact reason! People are interested but not enough to buy at that moment. I watch quite a bit of stuff, helps me to narrow down what I want and if something is VFM.

Exactly, it's for keeping track of several similar things so you can compare and decide which to buy.
