I am selling a motorbike on Ebay and have put a fairly high reserve on it. Someone has asked me what the resrve is. Should I tell them, should I post it to everyone? Or keep it a secret?

Ebay themselves are trying to tell me that with only 2 days to go I should lower or remove the reserve. Is this wise?

What do the Ebay knowledgable of STW think?

If I ask the reserve, and the seller won't divulge it, it's very rare I will bid on it.

It says to me that the bidder isn't being honest and up front.

If you're selling something I can't see why you'd not be prepared to name your price you'd be willing to sell at.

Based on my experience of Ebay, most bids will come in the last 30 minutes or so. If someone asks the reserve, tell 'em. Why the secret?

How many people have you got watching the auction? That is a reasonable measure of what interest there is.

Bear in mind that it is a gamble. I got stung for a Stinky frame that I put on with no reserve and it went for £100. I didn't put on a reserve to save ebay fees and really ended up paying for it.

You also need to be realistic. Why are you selling on Ebay, essentially an auction site, with what sounds like a high price. Maybe a classifieds section of a motorbike website would be appropriate. It comes down to what you want for the bike and how desperate are you to sell. If the reserve is what you want / need then stand by your guns. If you just want rid, lose the reserve.

Divulge.

I don't even look at auctions with reserves usually - it tells me the seller is probably overpricing and I'd be wasting my time.
