If I bid on an item with a reserve of lets say £50, and I have bid £60 but the lowest previous bid was £30, will ebay make my automatic bid £31, or £51 i.e. will it automatically jump up to the reserve price? Suspect it must but just checking.
It will go to £31 and reserve still not met. until someone else bids £49 and your bid would go to £50 and the reserve lifted.
Really? Whats the point of that? How does that benefit the seller or the buyer if I've indicated I'm willing to pay x amount, and seller is willing to accept x amount?
Asking because I've bid on an item up to a reasonable amount but my automatic bid is lower, and it says reserve not met. I'm not going to up my bid, so I'd like to bid on another similar item which at the moment is less. But if someone 'bids up' the first item and it reaches the reserve then I might end up 'winning' both??
will it automatically jump up to the reserve price?
Yes, your current bid will be the reserve price.

Yes, you could win both. Best not to bin on two things the same but presumably one is finishing before the other so you should wait for first to finish and then bid on second.

Because it is how reserves work (just as in real auction houses). I think reserves are pretty silly really and I just put the starting price at the price I want instead of putting that price as the reserve. You could just offer etc buyer £60 if that is what you are willing to pay. He can then change the auction to Buy It Now and you can buy it straight away.
Omce the reserve is bid that becomes the new lowest bit.
It's not got much similarity with an actual auction house tbh.
Kerley is wrong, it will go to £50 (the reserve price)
