Trying to get some thoughts on this. I have a very expensive flight (well 300quid) for a trip to Greece for a wedding in early July. easyJet have not cancelled the flight but are offering a voucher. Wedding is cancelled so not going. But the restrictions are that they wont give back any unspent voucher on a rebooking and it only applies for the original passenger. Since I normally fly with my wife and kid in much cheaper flights that is a bit rubbish. The email came in yesterday and I have until June 16th to accept. However the phone lines just say we are busy and call back later and the email contact days expect 15 days to reply! It seems vouchers for cancelled flights have few restrictions. So it feels I am being pushed into a rubbish voucher and cannot get any info on it. Anyone else had this offer and managed to talk to someone? Cannot find anything on Google. Thanks
I accepted a voucher for Easter flights and some time later there was an option to refund on the website (some had success via phone though). Vouchers would have been OK tbh but I requested a refund - about 6 weeks later still nothing has materialised.
Have a dig through the thread on it here
@mrl try this:
Called 0161 774 9861, option 1 at 8am this morning. Straight through. After doing security was offered a flight swap or voucher, stated I wanted a refund onto my original payment source – hold for 30 seconds – then it was processed whilst on the call.
I had success on that number.
Alternatively speak to your credit card company or bank.
That number works. However as the flight has not be cancelled yet there is no refund. Apparently the voucher is the same as a normal one, just a poor email. However they cannot provide any guidance what happens to my right for a future voucher if I don't take the offer up by the 16th. Seems a bit dodgy.
easyJet have not cancelled the flight
This is the kicker I think. Until they cancel it, they don't have to refund you, and July is way too far out for them to be making that call now. My Majorca flights weren't cancelled until a couple of days before and that was mid April. If you cancel, you'll get whatever the T's and C's say, (probably not very much!) so a voucher this far out might actually be a good deal.
edit - I should have refreshed the thread before commenting!
I had the same for flights in May. After the cancellation notice, I was given the option for a refund
Edit: They only cancel on a rolling 7 day notice basis, so it's a question of if you can afford to wait for that notice, or not
Had the same email here for a flight on 4th July.
I think they know the flight wont leave and they are just trying to get us to take a voucher instead of them having to refund when its cancelled.
When we checked the flight a few weeks ago there were only 20 people booked on it.
Checked again the other day and all the same flights for that weekend say they're full.
Seems they've done that to stop anyone else booking and them having to refund.
They even offered us a tenner to take the voucher and the email came up as a "promotion"
I'm interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this too.
In the same position for flights on the 11th July, had the email today. Looking on their website and Skyscanner, the route seems to have been removed until September so assuming that they will be cancelled.
However, they might not and then the 4 of us on the flight will be out of pocket for about the same amount as you!
If you have the nerve, sit tight, let them cancel it and then get a full refund either from them directly or by using your credit card or bank.
That's the problem, not sure I've got the nerve! Plus I'll be taking the same holiday next year so the voucher will get used, providing Easyjet haven't gone bust!
providing Easyjet haven’t gone bust!
That's the real issue.
I'm in a similar position with a ferry booking to Amsterdam. I know I'm not travelling, but I'd rather have a refund than a voucher from a firm that may not be operating in 12 months.
I too am trying to hold my nerve.
Stand to lose over £800 is they do fly.
Might take the voucher a book some cheap flights as a gamble.
Those who called that Manchester number, did you get through fairly quickly? I've tried a few times, on one occasion there was a recorded message asking to call their normal number and all the others I have been on hold where I gave up after 10 minutes.
Deadline for voucher offer for our Iceland flights on 28th June was the weekend. We’d already cancelled accommodation and resigned to not going so we’re planning on holding our nerve. Just been notified of flight cancellation this morning and have processed refund request. Not holding my breath though.
Just taken a voucher for the ferry booking using the online chat. The agent said that the voucher can be cashed in if the service we were due to travel on gets cancelled. Can't argue with that DFDS 👍
In the same situation with Eurostar rail tickets - constantly offering eVouchers. Have now raised it with the credit card company for them to go after the refund.
Just want to confirm something, does the voucher have the passengers name on it?
In my case the tickets for my son and his friend. I’d like to use the voucher for me and Wilma...
Yes have had the email too offering voucher for a flight i have booked - it's not clear if it covers both outbound/return 11th/18th July & apparently i have until midnight 23rd June to accept. Vouchers comes with - must use within 12 months & condition that if you use on cheaper flights they won't refund the difference T&Cs. If you accept the voucher & they subsequently cancel the flight you can't then opt for a refund.
Still deciding whether to accept it or hold my nerve & hope they cancel which obviously isn't going to happen by 23rd June.
edit - yes voucher is for named passenger only & can't be transferred
Ok, thanks ART.
Art, interesting that you say that. When I talked to them they said it could be used for a group booking and any unused money would be kept on the voucher. Will call them again.
I’d take the vouchers.
Look at it as money already spent so use the vouchers to get a trip away later in the year when there will be bargain flights and hotels.
We’d booked Greece for late May with EasyJet and rebooked in March for 1st September Get away. Flights are way more but the hotel is keeping same room rate as May so swings and roundabouts.
We are going for a refund for cancelled
flights last month, just have to wait a while for the money.
Does anyone know if...
So I booked flights but for the wrong dates and then changed the flight at the cost of 70 quid. Do you think that I'd get a refund for the changes to (given the flights have been cancelled)?
Just an update on our situation.
I lost my nerve a little and went for the vouchers a couple of days ago.
Just had an email this morning to say the flight has been cancelled.
Bugger. Oh well should have known that'd happen.
I forgot to do the voucher... Blaming lockdown, stopped tracking days! Flight is due on the 4th july, hope it will be cancelled soon.
Just got my cancellation email!
Flying to Croatia from Bristol next month.
If they do cancel the flight I'll take the voucher but donthinknflights will be more expensive in the near future.
If they don't cancel I think I might go, it'll be a very different holiday and more self isolation once back....
* I do think flights will be more expensive, due to social distancing & less opportunity to sell food and drinks on the planes, therefore the vouchers will get you less.
I've had the voucher offer for flights to Cyprus on the 14th July. I won't be accepting it; if we can't fly, which is the most likely outcome, and the flights are cancelled I don't know if/when we'll be able to book the same people onto a flight together as it was long-planned family occasion.
If we can fly, we'll be going.
Does anyone know if you take the voucher whether all names on the new booking using the voucher have to be the same as the original booking or whether it's just the lead name on the booking?
I'm waiting to hear what will happen about our August flights to Italy. Accommodation has been cancelled and we aren't going. We have travel insurance that covers COVID related stuff but not sure if they'll cover the costs if the flights don't get cancelled.
I'm just going to wait to see what happens. Money has been spent so if we lose it we lose it, be a bit rubbish but you never know.
What form does the voucher actually take, I've had a payment confirmation email , but no obvious voucher number or instructions on how to use it. Logged onto easy jet and nothing showing on my account page either??
