This is the first longer "summer" ride - not sure how many times I can get up at 5.15 to meet mates at 7. Are we all crackers, or just trying a little too hard to juggle the family/cycle balance.

What is this family that you speak of?
And why am I up so blinking early? (I've been up over an hour!)

Always up at this time due to my kids being early risers. My wife is off to aikido training fairly soon so not riding until after she's back.

To answer the OP yes it seems crazy sometimes but it's like that or don't ride.

I'm up and have been for a while, quite the opposite for me, family all growed up so can ride whenever

Can't sleep as the early spring has started my hay fever off which always messes with the asthma, time for another shot of blue inhaler and a cuppa

Enjoy the peace on your rides although the birds are going crazy here, loudest iv'e heard them for ages

When we really get into the Summer, I'm often on the trail or road way before 5 and home again before breakfast - doesn't get any better than a dawn blast IMO

When I was riding off road a lot, I'd start at 7am anyway. Mainly because of a young family, but also because the trails would be free of most users, who would mostly not turn up until 10'ish.

It's only the start of April, just because it's nice just now don't worry about the summer passing you by.

Best time of the day, especially when the weather is good.

Always been the same.

I'm off out right now. That way I'll be back half 10/11 and can spend the day with the family, which on a nice day like this will probably be out riding, this afternoons ride will probably include beer and ice-cream tho'

Im the opposite, I have an early rising toddler, but prefer to have my rides in the evening when hes in bed, and the wife can then watch her soaps without me moaning about it too!

So, to date most of the posters here have agreed that early mornings are good.

I predict that the balance will change after about - say - 11am
When all the late risers come on and claim it's impossible to wake at that time and go outside

🙂

just got back from 2 hour ride, house is still quiet so a quick bite to eat and no loss of QT with family. No walkers at that time either 😀
