Can anyone explain in easy to follow, straightforward language, how a 40 year old, relatively well educated male can put a DVD that was legally purchased onto his Mac(10.6.8) and then pop it into Itunes? Because I cannot for the life of me manage it...
Been googling but to no avail...so can anyone here help?
And yes it is Breaking Bad I'd like to watch. I know, I'm late to the party, but for a while I resisted out of sheer bloody-mindedness, now I want to see what the hoo-ha was about.
Use Mac's DVD Player or, better yet, VLC media player. Use Handbrake app if you want to rip he DVD at best quality, then watch with VLC.
You need Handbreak to basically rip it into a format that will run through iTunes. DVD's are region protected, and I think there's DRM as well.
Not difficult to do, as I understand, never done it myself, I never watch the DVD's I've already got.
[edit] Or just play it via DVD Player, as above. Ripping it with Handbreak means you can just play it anytime you want.
It was more so I could put into iTunes then onto other devices for when I'm not at home and to watch via AppleTV on the big telly...can you watch via AppleTV on the DVD player? cant see how...
Install VLC Player before you install Handbrake. Then, Handbrake will detect and use the DeCSS library in VLC Player automatically to decrypt the DVD...

Don't know if you can mirror on your OS, but airplay mirroring would be able to do that. Don't think 10.6 has airplay though. The new ones don't come with DVD player so no simple way. I rip them using handbrake and then stick the file in the add to iTunes folder and it sorts itself out.
Easier just to download Utorrent then go to kat.ph really. No moral issues if you own the DVD.
Stream To Me is a great app if you have AppleTV (and an iPhone/iPad).
If you rip into iTunes with Handbreak, then you can watch via Apple TV, and drag it onto iPhone or iPad to watch later, then delete to clear space for the next episode. You won't need the DVD player then.
Once you've watched the series, you can either delete to save space, or just leave on your HDD. If you delete it, you still have the DVD option for re-watching in the future.
You can't watch through the Apple TV from the DVD Player, AFAIK, but you won't need to.
Although there appears to be a worrying amount of jargon/acronyms at play already, I think I understand what needs to be done...many thanks so far, and I'll report back shortly!
