I've been trhough loads of these - I do tend to buy cheap, £10-20 but decent brands such as Sony, Philips, Sennheiser; but either the plug breaks (latter) or one channel goes quiet (presumably a cabling issue from being wrapped round the ipod etc).
Are they all so fragile? I've seen the wrap-around "on-ear" type that seem to do a reasnoable job at warding off external noise, I suppose that is a decent and durable (if less easy to pack etc) alternative?
My Sennheisers have lasted years of commuting. Currently using CX400s, previous ones are still working fine (5 years+) only changed cos wanted ones with a straight jack instead of right angled.
They were about £15 I think.
I use these jays
Someone on here saved me a fortune by telling me that when sennheisers go dodgy in one ear it can often be cured by runnig the offending side under the hot tap for a bit.
And sugru can often save a dodgy cable
I bought a pair of these recently...
...they have great reviews but i'll be gooing back to the sennheiser CX400s when these pack in, good but not quite as good as the senns.
Thankss sweepy, my senns died completely at the plug, seems to fragile to re-wire myself though.
Am currently using my 90's DJ closed-back cans!
I bought a pair of these about 6 months ago from Game, don't tangle and seem fairly durable, the sound is quite good also.

i find if the wire into the plug is straight they break quick. a 90 degree cable plug lasts much longer.
my £20 sonys have lasted a year of wet commutes. the skull candys i had before were shite and lasted a month!.

MMMMMMM... built up ear wax....
etymotic 6i here, been fantastic for the last 6 years. could be a touch bassier if i was being picky.
my 90deg sennheiser plug is the only one I own to have broken...
Dunno what you're doing with them! Right angle or straight, lasting well for me!
Right angled or straight, makes no difference for me. Just bought my 6th pair of headphones in the last 12 months. Mine get between 4-6 hours of abuse daily and as such don't last too long.
I do wonder if buying an expensive set with a replaceable cable would be a good idea but I can never bring myself to sheel out given my previous trail of destruction.
santacoops - you should have got the PL30's, I had the PL21's and the 30's are another level in terms of sound quality, can be abit bass shy if you listen to dubstep or D&B but still very good, they are over ear though so it makes putting them on a tiny bit more of a faff but there's no micrphonics at all so well worth it. Can be had for £19 on Amazon at the moment. Unfortunately the plug went last night and the left bud loses audio.
Just bought a set of Meelectronics M11+ for £20, supposedly pretty good, will have to see how long they last though.
I have these Bose IE2 really comfy. I cant wear one's that go into the canal due to ear surgery.
sorry for the hijack, but does anyone know a decent in ear that does that thing that mixes both sides into one side so you can hear cars etc? and not have the other side dangling about.
I have broken the 90 degree jack on my Sennheiser CX300 IIs twice in 18 months (Dixons has replaced them twice under warranty). Otherwise the CX300 IIs are an excellent pair of in ear headphones.
