OK, cellar has in the past had water flowing into it from a leaky surface water drain... that has now stopped, and I've cleared out a load of crap to use it for bike storage... but it's still very damp down there! And i don't want shiny bling (I wish, but same applies to what i've got!) being damp all the time...
Anyone experience of drying them out?! Is a commercial dehumidifier along with a small heater a sensible idea??!!
If you're not working / living there I'd go for airflow. Lots and lots of draught.
Our cellar used to occasionally flood (ground water level) and a sump pump sorted it out. To get rid of the damp though was a bigger issue and what worked in the end was a big draught!

already planning on leaving the door open as much as poss when the dehumidifer wasn't on - there is an outside grate where the coal chute used to be to let some air in... so I could get some flow going on...
