We will be in touch
I'll be working in Dyce for a week or two soon, and staying at my parents' house in Westhill. However that right turn from the B979 onto the A96 is a bit of a pain at weekends, so I imagine it could be pretty nasty during rush hours.
Does anyone do this commute and can they comment on whether it's better to make it a longer journey in order to join the A96 at one of the roundabouts further out from Aberdeen, or is traffic not so bad that I won't spend 1/2 an hour trying to get onto the A96 at the junction indicated?
I can't imagine joining the A96 at the junction would be too much fun. Personally I'd be lookoing to join at one of the roundabouts just before the junction.
What time of day are you speaking of?
Probably better joining the A96 at Blackburn, airport roundabout going to be a bottle neck from about 6:30 onwards.
where in dyce are you heading ? i do it most days at the moment at about 7.30 heading to near the pinehurst
westhill to dyce in the morning isnt bad if you access via craibstone SAC - its a bottle neck from any other direction
but getting out of dyce is a living hell at nights !
goingpast clinterty and in via blackburn is another good option albe it longer.
do not try and cross from the junction onto the a96 coming out of the woods opposite kirkhill - you will either wait for a long time or get struck by a car going faster than expected.

Shhhhhssshhh! that route is really frowned upon by SAC, heard they are taking measures to stop the short cut.

Some of my best RTC's have been at that junction.
Can you drive n cycle? Park up in Blackburn and cycle though Tyrebagger to Dyce.
I can't seem to get google maps to remember the routes i put into it but there is basically 2 ways i'd recommend going.
1 From Westhill take the country roads accros to the A96 round-a-bout at Blackburn then take the A96 into Dyce - Probably cutting up left at the Marshal Trailers junction (the one just past the speed camera on the way to the airport round-a-bout)
2 Head out of Westhill the other way A944 to Kingswells then left over towards dyce at Kingswells round-a-bout. At the T Junction you come to after Kingswells take a left then at the top of the hill take your first right and this will bring you out onto the A96 on the Aberdeen side of the Airport round-a-bout into the slow moving trafic heading to the industrial estate.
Rather than the first right you could continue over the hill and cut through the SAC at Craibston but they can get a little shirty about through trafic.

I don't know the exact hours I'll be working, but I expect I'll want to get to Dyce some time before 9am and leave sometime after 5pm. I'll be heading into the industrial estate bit - Howe Moss Avenue, I think.
Thanks for the emailed map, trail_rat!
meh its hardly a secret bruneep ....
i intend to be back out my car soon anyway now that the mrs is no longer working 40 miles from my work ! - hateful traffic round here does my head in.....
cycle from westhill is a good option ..... come in langstracht , down the howes and out the cycle path to dyce ? (both the direct looking roads on the map will see you in an RTA before long)
