The key to success... seat height!
agreed, I have had to 'negotiate' my kids' seats upwards in two or three stages. Although they are arguably on wheels smaller that they could/should be for their ages (so presumably way bigger standover and lower bb height than they could have), it is unnerving at first for them not to be able to sit on the saddle and place both feet flat on the floor. But both mine are way more confident about giving it some beans now the saddles are (nearly!) proper pedalling height.
I had to lower his to help with balance. It restricts the leg action but gave him the confidence with the balance that he needed. Hers had to go up because she kept catching her heels on the "willy". Her words not mine. 😀
excellent! it's an awesome moment watching them head off on their own like that.
Well done! Next is to teach my 4 year old to brake, even on steep hills. The scars have probably healed by now.
Welcome to the world of total terror as they wobble away from you and towards that tree/drop/canal/kerb/whatever that they may or may not be able to avoid or go round or stop.....
It's great though - my youngest (5) managed a flat four miles last weekend, scenery, cake stop, just like a proper daddy ride!
Last pic, there's a 6 foot huck to flat just out of shot. She's just sizing it up, thinking, "Yeah, that's doable"
Awesome! 🙂
My lad (now 10) has had two meaty crashes on his bike. He has learned three things from them:
1. Stop before scratching armpit
2. 'Watch out this bend is all loose' does mean take it easy; and
3. Get back on and ride as it's a long way to walk
