This is one indictment; Jan 6 investigation still continuing and may result in further indictment; Fani Willis in Georgia is expected to announce charging decision in August.
That little lot ooks like a significant potential impediment.
One thing's for sure - the odious orange one will fundraise like mad on the back of all of this; immediately after posting about the charges on truth social he issued a fundraising appeal - no doubt that will elicit donations from the gullible and hard of thinking.
Seems like this is no impediment to him either running for, or winning the presidency so don’t know there’s much to celebrate.
His MAGA base voters won't care, this will make them even more fervent, so it may not hurt his prospects in Republican primaries because those Trumpists dominate the Republican base. However, they are only about 20% of the overall electorate, so he needs to attract more centrist voters to win the general election. Having a steady release of indictments on serious charges like this, along with testimony from his former aides and lawyers will turn off centrist voters and probably motivate the very large number of people who don't like Trump to turn out and vote for Biden. Having Trump tied up in criminal lawsuits is plenty to celebrate. On top of that, he's basically a career criminal and seeing a serious criminal being charged with crimes is something to celebrate anyway.
🥳
The charges levied against him, and presuming he is found guilty, is there anything stoping a republican nominee standing on the pledge to just pardon Trump against any convictions?
I can't help but feel the Orange bawbag won't see an orange jumpsuit and will probably continue grifting
is there anything stoping a republican nominee standing on the pledge to just pardon Trump against any convictions?
No, but it may not impress centrist voters in the general election. What DeSantis etc. will do is tell Trump supporters that they think the charges are bogus, without explicitly promising a pardon. In fact, they're probably out there doing exactly that right now. What those guys want is for Trump to be taken out of the running and for his supporters to vote for them, but without making any promises that will turn centrist voters against them.
Marco has misplaced his irony-meter again.
37 charges apparently - things are moving quickly. His valet charged as well ( I think in an attempt to flip him) Two of his lawyers have resigned. its not looking good for the orange shitgibbon
Jeez, some of the documents he’d pinched! If you didn’t need any more evidence that the Russians have him in their pocket eh?!

Blooming heck at some of those documents.
Ah well, at least he didn't up the jail time for such behaviour in the hope he could send down Hilary, only to find he's now subject to the stricter laws and increased punishment.
Oh.
Wait.
😂😂😂
From that indictment:
On August 18, 2016 TRUMP stated, "In my administration I'm going to enforce all laws concerning the protection of classified information. No one will be above the law."
And a load more in a similar vein.
Is he a Russian spy?
He is certainly a "useful idiot" for the russians
Checking in on Twitter this morning

(Actually dont know the backstory to these cartoons)
That's fantastic.
Trump the Russian stooge so stupid he didn't realize he was one.
Does anyone have any idea why he wanted those documents? What did he want to do with them?
Ego boost is my guess. Trying to remain important and it bolsters his fantasy world
What did he want to do with them?
The man is unable to string two coherent thoughts together so I doubt Trump thought any further ahead other than assuming that it made him look "cool" amongst his "friends". But take a step back and think about who would benefit from the rest of the world realising that the US can't be trusted to keep their national security information secret.
It's highly likely he's being "handled" by someone else.
Apparently he was really pissed with General Milley, former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman.

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/03/24/mark-milley-lafayette-park-fallout-00088585
Milley's revelations showed what an utterly incompetent leader Trump was so Trump seems to have tried to keep documents that would support his claims that he was a genius and it was Milley who screwed things up. Trump was apparently obsessed with Milley and would rant on to MAL visitors about him and pull out documents to prove his points. However, they were also really paranoid about reporters not reporting things the way they wanted so they recorded his conversations so they could prove that Trump was being victimized by the press. Those recordings are evidence that he deliberately retained classified documents and knew they were classified.
On top of that, he's not a very organized guy so it looks like he just grabbed everything he could on the way out the door without really knowing what most of it was. So, yeah, probably a bit of ego driving him to keep some trophies to show off, some deliberate attempts to keep embarrassing or useful documents, plus a huge dose of laziness and incompetence.
However, the idea that he was intending to sell secrets to Russia is silly. He is a useful idiot for Russian propaganda, but there is absolutely zero evidence that he took documents intending to sell them to foreign agents.

DoJ recently started an investigation into his foreign business dealings.
DoJ recently started an investigation into his foreign business dealings.
That's not related to the documents case.
If I were trump I'd be seriously eying up properties in south America, lol!
But much like Borris I guess, he doesn't know when to cut his losses. His ego won't allow it.

Part of the evidence is that he literally just liked showing people them and saying "look, classified documents". That doesn't mean he wasn't planning anything worse, but the default position of "why would you steal it without a plan to gain from it" doesn't neccesarily apply when you're dealing with an actual mushroom.
I'd think the fact they are 'classified' would mean that they cannot be shared for bragging about.
I dunno why, for reasons of national security. Or daft things like that.

"I mean this whole $2 billion to an unqualified hedge funder makes no sense to me. And in light of the information that came out that there was military information on Iran, and we all know that Saudi Arabia has had Iranian aggression on their mind for a long time.

Yup, but who can blame him, after all sometimes you just have to impress serious people like (checks note) Kid Rock
“We’re looking at maps and s—, and I’m like, ‘Am I supposed to be in on this s—? I make dirty records sometimes. ‘What do you think we should do about North Korea?’ I’m like, ‘What? I don’t think I’m qualified to answer this.’”
(this isn't confirmed yet, but the deposition mentions "In August or September 2021, at The Bedminster Club, Trump showed a representative of his political action committee who did not possess a security clearance a classified map related to a military operation", and people have connected it to this quote from Kid Rock talking to Tucker Carlson in 2022)
So, if Trump keeps getting his lawyers disbarred, he might end up being represented by a court appointed lawyer.

One of Trumps current lawyers was on TV stating the Presidential Act, was, like, duh, an act that allowed the president to do whatever he wanted with stuff.
Rather than the act very specially saying anything produced by a president was property of the US.
He's doomed. Unless she's a grade A troll.
Does anyone have any idea why he wanted those documents? What did he want to do with them?
Some (CNN?) presenter was suggesting it might be for revenge on certain people, kinda being able to wave (classified!) documents in the air and say 'Ah ha, you said XXX, and these papers prove its YYY'.
Though to me, some of that stuff looks very useful to people who might pay him lots of money for a new hotel.
I have friends in the US telling me that some... parties in the US are calling for an armed uprising if The Tango Fascist gets indicted today.
This lawyer has a crack at explaining the current charges. Absolutely mind blowing stuff:
I still can't get over how this guy is worshipped by so many. He's a man baby that cries all the time when he is slighted in any way whilst not being able to put a coherent sentence together most of the time. I get the stick it to the man mentality but he has always been part of the rich "elite" in the USA, he cares not one bit for his worshippers yet they still fawn over him.
He's rich by some measures but he's never been one of the elite. I think this is at the heart of his problems. His dad set him up and then had to bail him out and he's never been part of that charitable set that demonstrate how much money they've got by doing the big donations at the fancy dinners. Perhaps because he's never be able to fit in as he's such a colossal arse. All this has ever been is him 'showing them', much like Alex Jones, or Johnson. Sad little men raging at the world.
He is still having trouble getting lawyers to represent him. A couple of his choices are disbarred in the state 🙂
wooksterbo - he knows how to pander to their prejudices
He is still having trouble getting lawyers to represent him.
He's probably struggling to find lawyers who won't tell him to cop for it and negotiate a deal to avoid an orange jump suit.
So having already claimed that he declassified the documents (by thinking "these are declassified now"), and also that the presidential act means that classified or not he was entitled to have the documents, now he's claiming that they were planted by the FBI. Yep that's how it works, when planting evidence you always make sure first that it's something completely nonincriminating that the person is allowed to have.
I get the stick it to the man mentality but he has always been part of the rich “elite” in the USA
He hasn't. He was born into wealth but he's never been part of any 'elite'. Not for want of trying. Non of the elite want his company- he's never been able to get into the club. He's alway wanted to buy a football or baseball team for instance becuase thats what the wealthy American elites do - but nobody will sell one to him because doing so would mean having to invite him into their circle.
