Words fail me TBH.

This must be the lowest point in US politics and that really is saying something.

I watched it last night and it was like video surfing on LiveLeak. You know it is wrong and slightly sick watching it but you can't help watching. It was stunning in its lunacy.

He ranged from being in campaign mode to attacking media to being totally incoherent and rambling. The fact that he is in any job, let alone a position of power, is incomprehensible.

The trouble is that while Trump is clearly an unhinged narcissist, the democrats will be compliant in granting him another term in office.

The people are crying out for someone, anyone who will have a positive impact on their lives, someone who will follow through on rhetoric with integrity. And instead of listening, the democrats are putting up against him a billionaire sponsored beige plank with dementia.

I hate Trump with a venom, but if I was in America right now I would be thinking, another Trump term might (just might) cause a reaction at the next election. But Biden just guarantees the billionaires and the corporate lobbies remain in power for generations.

Jon Sopel on the BBC news site has put together an interesting article on that news conference. He says he's been at some stunning press conferences over the years but last night's was "special"

CNN has some clips of it. All I can say is he's lost the plot.

It was a shocker.
Sopel's article gives a flavour of how truly appalling it was.
When trump cannot provide a direct, fact-based answer - as is often the case - he immediately resorts to personal insults; 'you're a truly horrible person' has become his current favourite.
The use of a crudely put together 'infovid' was depressing with multiple quotes by journos being taken completely out of context; it was nothing other than campaigning and is one of the reasons news stations cut away from his presser.
If he is not re-elected it is absolutely certain that multiple lawsuits will land very quickly as the US statute of limitations is 5 years; those lawsuits might need a little topping and tailing but will be substantively ready to go now. I expect the Southern District of New York to be first out of the blocks.

That conference might have been the most bizarre but it definitely wasn't the worst, since he managed to avoid recommending people take random medication, and didn't suggest that coronavirus is adapting and changing in response to medical treatment.

I’d like to see Jacinda Ardern receive the Nobel Peace prize or be promoted to global supreme leader or some such and Donald Trump being imprisoned or assassinated - not bothered either way.

402 pages dedicated to him when “He’s a dick” pretty much sums it up nicely. I’ve never wished harm on anyone, but genuinely wish Trump would drop dead or get assassinated. He’s just a vile piece of shit.

I think it'd be better if all the journalists walked out and left him blabbering on to himself. It might just make him realise he's just a big spoilt brat, might...

@joat- agreed. Why can't they (journalists in the room) get up and walk out and all the outlets ( apart from Fox obvs) just switch him off? The whole system of checks and balances no longer applies in the current US political arena, so just plain ignore him.

The way he talks to the journalist I'm surprised they haven't boycotted a press conference in protest.

I’d rather the journalists beat him to death with their microphones, pens and notebooks.

Nice (!) montage of Agent Orange’s most reality-denying outpourings:

All true.

It would be funny if he wasn't going to end up being our enforced 'bestie' come 1st Jan 2021.

Just as Corona wave 2 is at its peak.

Remember that Lying Blohard is still pushing ahead with Brexi even with a pandemic on the go.

Those shady backers have been guaranteed the payday of a generation remember......

So Trump suspends the US portion of the funding of the WHO.

Surely now is the time for other world leaders to step in and cover the US’s share and call Trump a dick? Not sugarcoat it with diplomatic pleasantries but crude to the point terms that really express their feelings.

And then someone please assassinate him. Preferably painfully.

His Team realise he is looking useless at the moment, so they turn to attacking the WHO, he can now say it is all their fault as they weren't quick enough raising the alarm.
His Supporters will believe every word.

I see reporters immediately tried to remind him of his January tweets praising the Chinese response 😄

Any official predictions on that? It's presumably a risk

Wonder which direction the shady backers would have gone with Brexit if they'd known the entire world economy was about to tank?

At this point all I'm hoping is this will all go down in history as the US's failed experiment at electing a lunatic narcissist as a one term President followed by him & most of his family and friends being imprisoned for embezzlement/fraud and a number of measures being put in place to ensure it can never happen again.

Sadly I think it's more likely he'll pull a Putin and manage to stay in power beyond two terms, or there really will be a civil war in the US.

Also is there any truth to the US fed gov seizing medical supplies states and individual hospitals have purchased (and them having to buy them back from federally appointed private distribution firms), and that some states are now using state police to escort supplies to prevent the seizures? If so it's just utter madness...

@fuzzy sems like it started a week or so ago

https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-federal-govt-fema-accused-taking-states-masks-ventilator-orders-2020-4?r=US&IR=T

The Kraft family (owners of Patriots) also orderd a load from China and had it escorted using state troopers to the hosptials to avoid it going near federal control.

Someone on Reddit posted that Trump is just a 'useful idiot' to push through regressive self-serving GOP policies and act as a smokescreen to further the aims of a corrupt state machine.

I can sort of see that. He's perfect for the role. It's disgusting, either way. How did we get here 🙁

Not the short term hedge fund / speculators / national-level insider traders.

These are the middle to long term backers who don't just want to make a quick hundred million whichever way things go like the short term spivs. They've already cashed in. What I am on about are the longer term shady backers who want to make tens of billions dismantling the NHS, Education etc. And, of course, it is a one way bet. Outsourcing public services that can't be allowed to fail totally and where the public end up picking up the pieces once the dividends, bonuses and 'salaries' are safely offshore.

Someone on Reddit posted that...

I know there are some fairly extreme views on Reddit but it is remarkable to see how many people on there completely buy into the narrative that China and the WHO somehow misled and tricked the US.

I've had several conversations where I have pointed out that the actual chronological timeline doesn't fit with story.

Plus the small fact that Trump claimed in mid-March that he had "always known this is a real—this is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic"

Apparently Trumps name will appear on the benefit cheques being sent out in US.
You actually couldn't make this stuff up!

Apparently he'd asked to sign them but that had to be the Treasurer. So instead he wanted his name printed on them - which is delaying the sending out of the cheques. 🙄

As usual it's all about Donny.

Quite hilarious to watch Republicans suddenly be enthusiastic about benefits, state help and essentially "Democratic Socialism" (though they'd never call it that)

Oh yeah, I wasn't suggesting using Reddit comments as any form of sensible information-gathering, but that comment did shift my perspective a bit.

He's a Useful Idiot. He distracts from the issues on policy and keeps the opposition occupied by drawing their ire and anger.

Even for Trump, cutting WHO funding during an actual pandemic is next level shitehawk behavior.

He rightly needs to be called out, and the likes of China, Germany and the UK should be steeping up to fill the budget gap and calling him out while doing it.

Don't even get me start on having Trump's name on benefit cheques. Its the kind of display of self-centered pettiness you normally only see in badly behaved children.

It seems utterly inconceivable that any one could consider re-electing this fool, but I guarantee that the election in November will be close run, such is the tribalism of US politics, at least 40% of the population would rather vote for the worst president in history than a Democrat.

I’m surprised he’s gone down that road, literally putting his name on what is a socialist idea.

You'd have thought, given their long history of electing idiots, morons, assholes, paranoid wannabe dictators, they'd have learned by now...but no; they just keep on at it. Look up Herbert Hoover, John Tyler, Warren Harding (makes Trump look like a pion of moral virtue) Andrew Jackson (violent drunk with a fondness for battering people with his stick)

I bet Trump never catches this virus and will be first in line for the vaccine.

He'll never spend a day in jail and will live out a long and pampered life.

Stuff like this makes me realise there is no such thing as karma.

He's now spouting out that the US will be open again earlier than anyone else.

He'll kill lots more people doing that, all he's thinking about is his re-election where he can say he closed his country for the shortest time and beat the virus better than anyone else.

Mind you the US is the only country having protests, in Michigan, about people being told to stay at home so maybe the general public over there don't give a shit.

Rest easy, Don's $1,200 cheques will be buying those at the top a much needed new yacht or 3rd/4th home. Rather than frivolous and luxurious stuff like food and meds for those at the bottom.
