^^ I saw those protests on the news. All deliberately breaking social distancing to have their pictures taken with their aAR 15 assault rifles...

Seeing that kind of stupidity really makes me think Trump is going to get re-elected.😟

I might be wrong, but I thought the UK was one of the biggest contributors to the WHO and have already stepped up.

I’ve only seen a statement we’ll continue funding rather than stepping up, by which I mean contribute to making up the shortfall.

He’s now spouting out that the US will be open again earlier than anyone else.

He’ll kill lots more people doing that, all he’s thinking about is his re-election where he can say he closed his country for the shortest time and beat the virus better than anyone else.

Mind you the US is the only country having protests, in Michigan, about people being told to stay at home so maybe the general public over there don’t give a shit.

The worry is his fan base will believe & it might just give him the leverage to do it - a second wave of infection will kill off the US economy with quite catastrophic results. Far worse than what we are currently seeing.....but hey it’s an election year - so whatever the F the orange turd can do to keep the GOP in power is just fing dandy. Ironicall & tragically, most of those who vote for him will be the ones who will suffer the greatest should the US open up too soon..

It's a no lose for him though. He'll chuck in some vague social distancing rule and berate any state that doesn't reopen. Then if it all goes base over apex then it's the state's, company's, individual's fault that they didn't follow his rule/wear facemasks, take his pill.

If there's no second wave then he'll be the genius saviour of the western world.

He's willing to bet thousands+ of lives on the outcome.

Yeah if it works he's a genius if it doesn't the it's someone else's fault and a conspiracy and fake news and you're a disgusting person. I really hope he doesn't they re-elected and faces some justice without the ability to hide behind the presidential banner.

Will be interesting to see if all the red-state governors obey the king, while the blue ones ignore him. A real-time side-by-side experiment in epidemic management.

I thought that us gun laws had influenced by a large part in having militia to counter an out of control government? That doesn't really work when the president of the out of control government's supporters are most likely to be the one in a militia group!
Trump is playing right in to China's and Putin's hands in destroying US authority, whilst there's plenty not to like about Trump and US politics the thought of China and Russia gaining even more influence is scary.

Whilst I think Trump is an awful president and human being, I think all of this does ignore the fact that the WHO suffers from the same problem as many organisations of its kind, namely corruption.

Look at how its leaders have got to their positions and you’ll see what I mean.

This is the response to someone who questioned Trump cutting WHO funding on Facebook. (I know it's Facebook but gives a good indication of how his supporters think.)

This is the start, china need to pay for this world economic melt down!!! Trump is only man with balls to do it, the rest are in chinese pocket!!!ebook.

WHO and the UN are a waste of money and effort. What have either really accomplished? World still have wars, hunger and disease. Another is the EU.

WHO protected China until 1,000,000 residents could fly out of the country

The way WHO dealt with the China issue was detrimental to world health. They are really just a bunch of delegates who meet to discuss stats and data and publish the results. They DO nothing.

We pitched in another £200M. Tedros thanked the UK at one of last week's WHO briefings. Not all direct to WHO, but all for the COVID effort in developing nations.

He’s an absolute ****ing tool and when this is all over and thousands are dead because of him he should be held accountable. I really hope he dies soon, I genuinely wish death upon him. It’s the only thing capable of stopping his staggering dickhead behaviour.

I do wonder what the death toll will have to get to before his base start to turn lon him. Given how much his less well off voters aren't keen on universal healthcare, I suspect it might be seven or eight digits. Even then most of the true believers will be of the opinion that it would have been worse under Obama/if they shut the economy/couldn't have a haircut when they wanted.

I just wish for something difficult that he can't defend/wriggle out of/pay off/leverage people on and be held to account. If that means death, so be it.

The issue underlying all attempts to hold trump accountable or influence him is the two party system where partisanship is more important than having integrity.
Just like when they tried to impeach him.

Frightening times ahead for anyone in USA.

It's not affecting his redneck heartland as bad yet.

If you’ve not seen it then watch the Trump documentary on Netflix. You can watch his descent from fairly normal, if thoroughly unpleasant businessman into completely unhinged megalomaniac.

It’s not a comfortable watch

I mean, what he’s basically advocating at the moment is for armed militia to rise up and overthrow state governments

That is absolutely off the scale mentalness

Isn’t specifically telling people to use their 2nd amendment rights (arm oneself in order to form a militia to overthrow a tyrannous government) in some way treasonous?

In protest against a lockdown which he himself supports and in fact has tried to claim he has sole authority over whether or not it stays in force.

No, he’s the King, he can do whatever he wants, and they’re not overthrowing his government, just using armed insurrection to take over state governments and replace them with something more in line with their way of thinking.

From Nate White via Quora, stolen from UKC...

Someone on Quora asked" “Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?” Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England wrote the following response:

"A few things spring to mind.

Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.

Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.

Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness. There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul.

And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege. And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead.

There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down. So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:

• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.

• You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.

This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum.

God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump. And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?’

If being a tw*t was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set."

I am slightly heartened by the way the press are no longer just taking his lies, and are actually challenging them a little, to his face.

He still denies the lie, but it's simple to prove by showing a quick clip. It does make him look ridiculous.

The good news is that by the first Monday in November he is out. Hopefully the election will be cancelled, or he will be thrashed by Biden and normal folk will have come to their senses.

He’s going to walk his re-election.

We look in horror at these gun-toting, redneck shit-kickers, who are quoting the second amendment as their divine right to die of Coronavirus, but unfortunately they’re the ones who get to vote.

And they all bloody love Trump! He shares their crass, witless ignorance. He’s one of their own
